Unfortunately there’s no such thing. Some dogs are less likely to cause a reaction than others but none is truly hypoallergenic.
We flew with our 17 lb puppy using the Sturdi https://www.amazon.com/Sturdi-Products-SturdiBag-Carrier-Large/dp/B00LNBXTPI/ref=asc_df_B00LNBXTPI/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167159405462&hvpos=1o5&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2846829253654636857&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003537&hvtargid=pla-306910597905&psc=1
It’s soft sided and the dome Shaped top can be compressed to fit under the seat in front of you. This carrier was recommended by the breeder who’s had great success flying with it.
Pup was very comfortable, I lined the bottom with absorbent puppy pads in case of accidents.
Would highly recommend.
Bonus: I use it now as a comfy cat carrier as the pup is now 65lbs
you guys are awesome, thank you!!
My carrier looks a lot like that Sherpa one. I got it at Petco.
I recommend some puppy pads too, not only for on the plane but it is a long way from the plane to the outside of the airport when you get off, you are waiting for checked luggage, etc. And plastic bags to toss the pads.
My niece travels with her dog all the time. She said she always has several copies of the paperwork (vaccination, health certificates) because someone always takes a set and doesn’t give it back, and you never know who that’s going to be (airline, TSA).
I never had to show any health info for my dog. Someone I know who has an ESA did, and that may be because they are allowed on leash in the airport and to sit on their owner’s lap. I flew SW.
Bringing pee pads reminds me that some/many/most (no clue) airports have “animal relief areas.” The airport the puppy and I departed from had one that was very nice. Even had several grassy boxes (may have been fake, I/we didn’t use) with sprinklers to turn on and wash them down after use and these little fire hydrants in the middle of the grass. Also, the area had wash basins to wash the pups as well.
We have a Sturdi bag too. Love it!
We also use it in the car because we can loop the seat belt through the side straps.
I called United yesterday and found it strange that I was told I didn’t need to bring any paperwork or anything… I’m going to bring everything though; better to be safe than sorry!!
We are flying into SFO and I believe that there are some relief areas so that’s good. But yes, peepee pads!! Totally forgot about those!
Your pet is traveling domestically…right? If your pooch was traveling internationally, you would be in a very different situation regarding documentation. All would need to be with the pooch at all times. And if traveling through the EU, pets must be microchipped.
@thumper1 we are flying domestically from DC to SFO
I bought a Sherpa carrier and my dog instantly liked it! Jumped in all on his own and just chilled out in it for a while!!
Our pup loved it as well and we used it as her house/bed for the first month. We’ve transitioned to crate training now. Best of luck with your trip.
