Generic IU question here…anyone know date for parents weekend this fall? I’m guessing Sept 27-29 based on the hotel rates I just saw ![]()
I understand that Kelley is going to dominate IU discussion forums. It was like that pre-EA decision in January and remains so now. However, I felt like the Finite Math thing was so specific that maybe was time to broaden the discussions if possible. If people still want to post about it, I can figure out a way to navigate around it. Was mainly trying to represent those among us who may not have even gotten their IU admission or merit decision yet. It’s fine though. People are in different stages of this whole thing.
I’ll happily steer the conversation elsewhere. Though my daughter received her EA acceptance to IU a while ago, she just received her Jacobs acceptance last week–BM in Voice. Now I feel like I can finally invest myself in this thread;). Any Jacobs kids or parents in here???
IU undersells how impressive the music program is. World class performances you can just watch as an undergrad. Congrats. Truly awesome honor.
Parents weekend is Sept 27-29. Homecoming is Oct 18-19. Impressive hotel effort, we are still on wait for UCs and UW to even answer apps then consider schools.
Holding a hotel for parents weekend just in case. Hilton garden inn…. $900 a night. Ouch…but hey, free breakfast ![]()
Yikes!! Nothing wrong with visiting on a off weekend when less busy. Staying at the Biddle Hotel in the Union is a great way to experience campus.
What is parent’s weekend? Is that Kelley-specific or an IU thing?
IU thing. Parents come for events, football game etc
Hello! I’ve seen you on the music board!
My son was admitted to Jacobs for audio engineering and sound production! Still waiting on financials to make our final decisions! Happy to see another Jacobs family on this thread ![]()

IU has pushed back the enrollment commitment date to 5-15. It’s noted in the “next steps for enrollment” site.
What would be some good search terms or places to look at for first year housing info? My senior is visiting 3/1 for an accepted student day and we’d like to check out campus layout before filling out housing application (which is maybe available now?)
My DS received a letter from the Office of Scholarships with his admissions packet that said that “Any additional IU scholarship funding for incoming students will be awarded by March 15.” Does anyone know if this would include any potential scholarships from the GSA (or SSA)? That sounded fast as I think some of those aren’t even due yet. Or is this referring to any “University” level scholarships?
You have to understand the LLCs at IUB and then the dorms broader than that because it’s confusing if you are looking for Collins or Jefferson dorm. Location is tricky because a lot of students have classes all over campus and it’s all a solid walk so in the end it doesn’t really mattter where it is located IMO. And in most cases your freshman year you are not in your major in a total way yet on location. The Kelley kids will mostly be in McNutt and Foster typically by location. Jacobs kids tend to be at Read. One of the Dorms used to have single rooms. I kinda think dorm choice is a lot about nothing huge, is there a bad dorm? Maybe there are some older ones or ones without a Starbucks. It’s all pretty overwhelming.
GSA is different than “other recommended opportunities.” You will have filled out GSA and SSA by now I believe. I think that was due 2/1.
GSA would have been filled out prior to SSA. SSA essays were due 2/1. My daughter applied to a couple others, one was due 2/1 and one 3/1. That’s probably typical. Think most awards will be sent out by 3/15.
A lot of these are needs relevant based and with FAFSA I’d expect most will not hear by 3/15. That’s based on the normal FAFSA date.
Good point. We explicitly said we wouldn’t qualify for need based (for the ones that asked so I assumed some would be on time. But all bets are off this year. Just saw U Oregon pushed back to June 1.
I have no inside information on this one. Some might hear by 3/15 all might hear by 3/15 none might hear. All I know is that every college sets many of its deadlines around FAFSA and FAFSA is a problem for every University this year. We’ll see where it goes. Hard to imagine need based scholarships being released by 3/15 and hard to imagine the school only sending out non need based awards which won’t play all that well with the masses.
Isn’t Finite Math more fun to discuss ![]()
everyone probably got the email last night, but it sounds like Merit awards will come out by 3/15
