Induction Cooktops

Yes. But what is available abroad would be useless for US users, wouldn’t it?

Induction cooktops have been available in the US for a while now, too, but the early versions sold in the US often emitted whiny noise. That would have been a huge deal killer for me. The tech got improved substantially so even the lower end cooktops are just fine now. That’s what I meant by tech catching up. Noise free cooking.

We had a Bosch 800 series 36" induction cooktop installed when building our home, and I love it. It’s very responsive, easy to clean and doesn’t contribute to indoor air quality problems. I especially like the safety of it with little grandchildren in our home three days a week or more.

I was concerned about the noise being irritating as I seem to be overly sensitive to sounds. I can hear it when I use the boost setting for rapid boiling, but it isn’t obnoxious. On most settings I don’t hear anything.

The pan does not need to be an exact match for the burner. Using a pan with a significantly larger than the burner diameter will increase cooking time. You also need to stir more frequently. Pans slightly smaller than the burner are fine. How much smaller than the burner the pan can be will vary by manufacturer and possibly model. I’ve used pans with diameters 2-3" inches smaller than my burners with no issue.

Thanks to all for the advice.

We looked at cooktops yesterday & I believe we are going to buy a 30” GE. H has to string some wire and replace a 30 amp circuit and will be able to do that before the cooktop is ready for delivery.

Local appliance store, no upselling or pushing lower price options that have drawbacks for us.

This past month there’s been a huge truck repair, replacement of the innards of the trailer refrigerator, and the cooktop. I’m over it all

I am just finishing a kitchen remodel and installed a 36" GE Profile Touch Control Induction Cooktop. I also bought a Tramontina Stainless Steel Cookware set when it was on sale at Costco. Both were recommended by NYT Wirecutter. So far I’ve just used the cooktop 3 times but I’ve been impressed that it’s been easy and responsive.

If this is going to be an induction cooktop- this is what we use in three different sizes from amazon. They work great- I just clean them off and usually do not need to clean the cooktop.

My husband installed the new cooktop today. Well, it took a couple of additional days to run the wires and so forth. Looking forward to cooking on it.

So cool but wondered – how do you locate the hidden burners? The FAQ page says a sound is emitted when turned on, or you can have etchings or use stickers to identify burner locations. Love this idea. Next kitchen.
