Pittsburgh police are searching for the victims of a suspected “serial burglar” snatched in Oakland today.

Plainclothes detectives in the city’s Zone 4 station in Squirrel Hill were monitoring an area near the corner of Centre Avenue and North Craig Street this afternoon when they spotted a man attempting to sell laptops and other goods out of a car, Officer Frank Rosato said.

When detectives combed through the contents of the car, they found laptops, jewelry and other expensive goods, many separated into bags based off of where the suspected burglar had snatched them. Officer Rosato said police have been able to identify some of the burglary victims because their IDs were located with the stolen loot.

Some of the victims – police suspect there may be as many as a dozen – have already been contacted, but police are still searching for leads on the others. Some of the confirmed victims lived in the area near Alder and Spahr streets and police suspect the burglar might have pried his way into several homes.

Officer Rosato said the suspect, 36-year-old Antwone Thurston of the North Side, will likely face charges of burglary and receiving stolen property. Mr. Thurston was being interviewed at police headquarters tonight and police plan to take him to the Allegheny County Jail later today.

Officer Rosato asked anyone who thinks he or she might have been a victim to call the Zone 4 station at 412-422-6520.
