Both still have holds at my library though not as bad as @jollymama’s.
Age of Vice - Deepti Kapoor (Literary fiction; Family sagas; Crime fiction; Thrillers and suspense; Book club best bets)
Homecoming - Kate Morton (My IRL book club read this one. It got a solid thumbs-up from everyone with a good discussion.)
And brand-new, as in just published:
Enlightenment - Sarah Perry (CC Book Club read and discussed her The Essex Serpent. Maybe it’s new enough that we could catch it before it fills with holds.)
Having recently watched (and loved) American Fiction I would love to read Erasure by Percival Everett the book it’s based on. I think it would be really interesting to compare the two as well. The hardcover and audiobook is available at our library and the waitlist for the ebook is quite short.
Ooh – Percival Everett is also the author of James. I heard passages from that while my husband was listening to it. It’s good. I’d like to read that, too.
Great choices! I would happily read any of them. I’m keeping North Woods on the list because what if @jollymama forgets everything by the time it’s more readily available?
As always, I’m OK with whatever we choose. I’ve read “Tom Lake” for my RL Book Club and will be reading “James” for Books on the Beach later this summer.
I read Huckleberry Finn as a grown up and it was much more interesting than I expected it to be. Well worth reading. I’m not that interested in James, but would read it if chosen, (and would probably feel obliged to at least skim through Huck.) They might make a good pair of classic/new book for some time.
A few years back, we read The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish, which had also been compared to Possession. Legitimately so (I thought). I really liked that book.
While Enlightenment looks very good, it was just released a week ago. It is still expensive. The only books that were in my library consortium were James and Tom Lake. I will have to purchase all of the others. Although all of the books look good, I will ultimately vote by price.
Here is the results link, but remember, it’s relatively meaningless at the moment because only a handful of people have voted. So ignore the “winner” until we reach our quorum: Election Results
