International HS student but US Citizen, how will my application be reviewed?

I can’t resist to ask within this thread …

Given the statistics(child may want to apply to UC), if he/she is US citizen but will graduate out of the country, will he/she be group in an “international?”

The applicant will be considered a Domestic out of state applicant with an International HS record.

So we will be looking at Out of State acceptance rate, got it, thanks.
For application fee, will the system(whether UC or common app) let us know how much based on the stats or do we choose, I find this confusing.

The application fee is $80 for each UC campus

2023 OOS admit rates for the UC’s. Admit rates do not tell the whole story since the OOS applicant pool is 1/4 the size of the in-state applicant pool. Also OOS applicants are usually self selecting and require higher stats to apply. OOS applicants also receive little to no financial aid so they should expect to pay close to full fees at $74K/year to attend.

OUT OF STATE Admit rates/OOS Enrollment rate

UC Berkeley: 7.8%/28%
UC Davis: 60%/8%
UC Irvine: 47.4%/9%
UCLA: 8.6%/33%
UC Merced: 80.9%/<1%
UC Riverside: 87.2%/5%
UC San Diego: 31.8%/9%
UC Santa Barbara: 32.7%/10%
UC Santa Cruz: 81.3%/6%

It’s definitely great to see statistics so we can keep our expectations in check. This is such a great information.

Budget wise I’m thinking it will cost at least $74-90K given they may need 2 long distance travel/year, privates will be in 100-110K range. What do you think, is it a reasonable numbers?

Yes, those numbers look reasonable. Privates may be able to offer better financial aid so those numbers could be lower than the UC’s.

Only your family can decide if this is a reasonable amount for you to spend.

If you are asking if this cost estimate is close, I would say, yes. Close. The UCs cost about $76,000 a year…and adding travel and health insurance to that cost will make it more than that. @Gumbymom am I correct?

Yes, I concur.
