International Student Orientation Date??

You are not bugging anyone - that’s what this forum is for! =) Yes if you participate in IO you will move into your dorm prior to the start of IO. You should be aware that they are big on equity in rooming so you cannot “claim” your space before your room mate is present. My son was given his room mate’s contact information and was able to e-mail and call him to work out who would take what space prior to moving in. Otherwise they will insist that you keep things “neutral” until your room mate arrives.

One thing your parents might enjoy is the pre-rade which is the welcoming event for the freshmen class where you enter by residential college through the FitzRandolph gates. It will be held on Sept 7 this year I believe. Here’s a link http://www.princeton.edu/princetoniana/traditions/current/pre-rade/</a> While only freshmen can participate, lots of parents stick around to watch. The opening exercises (held in the chapel) are televised elsewhere on campus but can also be streamed later for those who cannot attend. I think there are also activities for parents the day before which is the official “move in” day for all students who are not part of IO/CA/OA or fall athletes who are on campus early.

Since our son was there so early we didn’t actually attend any of these events but we did watch it online. It’s a long stretch between the beginning of IO and opening exercises so if your parents feel it is too long to stick around they will definitely not be the only ones in that boat!!
