I shared all of your information with D. She is flying in/out of Milwaukee. Rented a car at a good price.
She will need to stay in Milwaukee near the airport the night before her morning flight.
Any suggestions?
I do not know where her interview is but will ask.
Thanks everyone! I am relieved that she decided to skip Chicago this trip.
When is her interview? My sons g/f lives in Milwaukee, so I can try to get info
I know son has driven to Madison several times to see his HS friend, I think about 90 miles.m
@oregon101, my brother and his wife stayed at the Best Western Plus Milwaukee Airport Hotel when they had an early morning flight from Milwaukee two weeks ago. He said it was really nice and he highly recommends it.
Good choice. People in Wisconsin tend to stay within 10 miles of posted speeds on highways (in other words, not going to get a ticket for that). Law abiding drivers but will cross solid white lines when merging onto the interstate (a CA inlaw was shocked when I did this decades ago- different ways in different places). Driving will help her get a feel for the place she plans to live in. Coming from Boston she should have no problems managing traffic.
Use a site such as Expedia to get information but then book directly with the hotel to get cheaper rates and the ability to cancel. AAA is useful for rates, btw. We have stayed at many near the airport places when flying out of that airport. It may be a good idea to choose a hotel with a free airport shuttle so she can do the car return the evening before and not have that potentially time consuming task in the morning. Since she just needs a place to sleep I would consider location more than amenities- ie close to the airport without spending a lot.
Made dozens of Madison-Milwaukee trips in my time. It’s around 75 miles- could be more/less depending on the part of town. She should do a MapQuest route search for the time of day she would be travelling- find routes and travel times. Once she gets on the highway it will be a straight shot until she hits Madison. Then the fun begins.
She should contact the place she is interviewing at for specific directions within Madison. They want to make a good impression and will be useful in knowing which roads work at the time of day, any road construction and so forth. In fact, they likely would email her a map of the best route to their offices. Being nice, and helpful, is something people in Wisconsin like to do.
