Iowa public universities see growth in OOS

WIbadger, if it were my kid I’d calculate the RAI using a conservative estimate for class rank, maybe 50%. The RAI’s biggest component is the number of college-prep courses, so if she’s picked up another year or half-year of one of the qualifying subject areas it’ll more than compensate for so-so ACT.

If she’s borderline based on this calculation definitely do as you propose.

They are not hard-line. My son failed to qualify for Honors by a good margin but popped an email to the director explaining his curriculum etc and two days later he was admitted. This is a great thing about Iowa - none of the voodoo you get virtually everywhere else. There’s a requirement, sure, but if you don’t hit it, “let us know and we’ll take a look!” Remarkably simple and sensible.
