iPad mini et al

I understood what you meant but that autocorrect isn’t an issue with the bluetooth keyboard, only with the onscreen one.

I’ve been frustrated with autocorrect since it first appeared in Word many years ago.

Ugh auto correct. So stupid. :p

Re: the now " outdated" ipad.
I haven’t had any problem with overheating ( & i never take it out of its case) or with connectivity with the ipad three.

it is true that it takes a long time to charge, especially if you are using it while charging.
and if you make the mistake of grabbing the iphone wall charger instead of the ipads, it will take f o r e v e r. :(

if you use facetime the front facing camera has been upgraded on the 4, but other than that, how many people even use the camera every week, let alone every day?

Battery life is the same.
The screen is the same.
Same ios.
ipad 3 has a A5X processor, ipad4 has a A6X processor.
If you are in the UK, you can use 4g now, whereas that isnt available with the ipad3.

I waited until iphone4 to buy an iPhone & I waited until ipad3 to buy an ipad.
I’ve been using Apple products since 1995. When it was actually uncool to use them.
I don’t get something because it is trendy, I get it because it is useful.
I’ve had my ipad for six months, I’ve been buying personal computers for 17 years.
With the exception of my first desktop computer and a couple other models, I’ve found that buying factory refurbished is the way to go. They have the same warranty as brand new, they just arent as * shiny*. But that you pay extra for.

Apple just launched a 12 Watt charger which might improve charging speed.

I have the five watt chargers from both Apple and Google and the ten watt chargers too. They are all interchangeable.

The nice thing about having multiple tablets around is that you can just grab whatever is charged.

The word “obsolete” is just annoying. It’s headline writing for a world in which transient recognition is considered a coup.

A favorite autocorrect story is the substitution for the misspelled word “insect” in a science paper I know of by a person I know well. The substitution wasn’t read closely and applied to all. The substitution was “incest”.

I wonder how much faster a 12 watt charger will work over a 10.

Computers are like cars. As soon as you drive it off the lot it depreciates, or as soon as you boot it up, something comes out with more memory, better os, faster modem, more shiny.

:o I’ve actually been playing with macs for 22 years. My first laptop i bought in 1994. It was almost $5,000. I think it had 14? mb of ram & a trackpad.
I loved system 7.

It looks like the 12-watt charger saves about 0.7 hours on charging time if you’re not using the iPad. About 0.8 hours if you’re using it.

^^^ well, that certainly sounds like it would have been worth putting off the purchase of the ipad3 almost 8 months until the ipad4 will be available.

Or you could buy one for $19;)

Surface got decent reviews from Wired et al. [Review: Microsoft Surface Tablet](<a href=“Review: Microsoft Surface RT | WIRED”>Review: Microsoft Surface RT | WIRED) Fingers crossed for for the Pro.

I heard the same thing at work.

[Google Nexus 10 Bests iPad’s Retina Display - Hardware -](http://www.informationweek.com/hardware/handheld/google-nexus-10-bests-ipads-retina-displ/240012506)

The Nexus 10 is bigger, has a better screen, and does not cost much more than the mini.

Can you use 4g ?

And is this a huge disadvantage? When it comes to graphics-heavy browsing, 4G is useless. I rarely use it on my iPad. Besides, there isn’t a square inch in our town where at lease some wifi is not available. All you have to do is to look for a Stabucks logo. :)

People will find reasons to justify what they buy. Does a keyboard that doesn’t require the extra steps of tapping settings, tapping bluetooth on, tapping connect matter? It will for some, not for others. We don’t know in part because over 100 million tablets have been sold without keyboards and a large percentage of those have not bought add-on keyboards. Will it matter more over time? Well, over time if it matters then tablets will have auto-recognized keyboards of some fashion. That the Surface is the first doesn’t mean it will be the only or even the only for very long, given how quickly the Asian companies poach intellectual property.

How big is the market? No one knows.

It’s interesting to me MS is betting on a form of lock-in. Makes sense. Apple has a form in the money people have invested in iOS apps. MS offers Office, trying to transfer that lock-in from desktops.

I’m considering the 3G Nexus 7 for my mother. She doesn’t have internet access and this would be a cheap way to get her email and web access. I think that it’s pretty hard for Apple and Microsoft to compete against Google and Amazon as they are selling the hardware at cost and making their profits in other ways.

I’m thinking of suing them for trademark infringement for using my name.

:)…

It’s fascinating watching the innovation and change.

I’ve been trying to think about ultrabook convertibles. Isn’t that what the Surface takes on? The convertibles have much bigger drives but weigh more. Are convertibles a product which doesn’t fit a market?

Some things are just stupid. The dumb ad about the new way to work: with a stylus. Showing the stylus doing all sorts of things you can do just as well or better with your finger. But convertibles? There’s something appealing about them but I’m not sure where they fit. Is this going to be my only device?

I saw that Apple’s iPad performance last quarter was sort of misreported. The report noted that shipments were up 26% but it turns out that was because they stuffed the distribution channel the prior quarter. Actual sales were up 44%, which is a really good number. That suggests tablet momentum, not just for the iPad but in general, is not slowing at all. I find the numbers for tablets generally to be highly distorted - and annoying - because Google and Amazon don’t report sales, which I think is wrong, and analysts seem to willfully confuse shipments with actual sales.

The jury is out until people start buying convertibles and using them. A ten-inch laptop is on the small side for a laptop for me. It’s on the big side for a tablet for me too (I prefer the 7-inch models). I think that I’d like the 15 inch Retina MBP but I don’t need to replace my current laptop.

So, we’ll see.

Did you see the floating apple store launched?
