I wonder how many HERE have made the plunge and bought the iPad Mini. Here as in CC, not the US!

I wonder how many HERE have made the plunge and bought the iPad Mini. Here as in CC, not the US!

I do not know anyone that has bought one… yet. I’m sure someone will eventually. Then again, I only know two people with the larger ipad so who knows. I’ve never taken the plunge on an apple product before and don’t intend to now. I did however not so subtly hint at a nexus 7 when my parents and I were at staples the other week.

I happened to be looking at the mini and the ipad today. After playing around with the mini, I picked up the ipad and it really feels heavy in comparison. I wouldn’t mind at all if someone bought me a mini.

I looked at the mini today with H. Ok–I hate how small the font is. I love how light and can so easily fit in my purse/bag. SO yes, 100%, am getting one and passing my ipad to my H (just 4 months old and he loves it). The last few months I have had to tote the ipad around in my bag as we traveled and add a water bottle and it is too much on my shoulder.

I may have to look at one. I’ve run into some App issues on the Nexus 7 that have me doubting the Android ecosystem a little.

I read an article from a person that has the Mini, Nexus 7 and Kindle. He likes the Mini. The only way I could justify it is if I gave one of our existing tablets away.

You can give one to me - lol.

Co worker just told me this morning that her daughter wants one of the little mini ipads for Christmas.

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using CC

I was going to give it to my mother - she has no internet access and we could do the 3G plan on the iPad 2.

This freaked me out: per MS, the 32GB Surface has 16GB available after you allow for all the built-in stuff. By contrast, a 32GB iPad has about 28GB available. By “built-in”, I mean the OS and built-in apps.

This isn’t good. I had expected somewhere closer to 21 or 22GB free but MS says the 32GB has 16GB free and the 64GB has only 45GB free.

Storage is much less an issue in tablets with expansion slots.

How much would a 64GB card set you back? Fifty or sixty bucks! How many flashdrives do frequent travelers have? I know I have more than a dozen of various sizes, and they are helpful in keeping storage nicely organized. And there is always Cloud storage.

[Surface storage options | USB flash drive | Memory card](http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en-US/support/surface-with-windows-RT/files-folders-and-online-storage/surface-with-windows-rt-storage-options)

Additional storage options
In addition to the 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, the following storage options are available:
USB flash drive or hard drive
microSD, microSDHC, or microSDXC memory card
Cloud storage using SkyDrive

I’ve come into some money…I want to scope out the iPad mini at the Apple store and see if I fall in love.

I bought an iPad mini. I’d been wanting a 7"-ish tablet for a while and decided to wait when rumors of the mini came out. So far I love it.

Daughter bought one last weekend and I will soon. Lightweight!

So those with the mini are happy with the screen resolution?

I have the Nexus 7 and it doesn’t have super-high resolution but it’s quite usable. I’m also fine with the iPad 1 and 2 which don’t have the super-high resolution. The high resolution costs in battery life and they’d have to make it thicker and heavier on the mini.

BTW, I still haven’t seen one of these yet.

Rumors of an iPad Mini Retina coming out in the Spring from China. Also rumors of an iPhone 5S in Q1 or Q2 of 2013 - to deal with yield issues on iPhone 5 manufacturing.

I don’t have one but I spent some time playing with one. If you have a retina display, you will be annoyed, at least for a while, because you’re spoiled by the clarity. If you don’t - and I don’t - then it’s perfectly fine.

As disclosure, I have an iPad2, use it for writing, am extremely far-sighted (so I wear reading glasses) and still find the screen more involving than a desktop. The mini may be a little better, but I’m not sure.

I expect a retina mini but I think it depends on the manufacturing scale of the newer chips - A6? I think much of what we saw with the iPad3 and then the iPad4 is the chip upgrade was necessary but not ready so they released the 3 rather than sit out of the market with an aging iPad2 and no 4G LTE. The newer insides are better fit with the retina displays demands.

Samsung just raised their CPU prices 20% to Apple so I’d think that Apple would want to source more chips from their other suppliers - and it might take their other suppliers to ramp up their processes for Apple.

As you likely know, the story is that Apple is pulling its chip business from Samsung. Along with its screen business. That would suggest Samsung is trying to make its money while it can.

I may have mentioned this before, but I don’t understand Samsung’s strategy. They are primarily a chip and screen maker, at least more so than a phone maker, and Apple is one of the biggest customers. They could have licensed patents instead of going to war. That seems to be costing them a multi-billion dollar revenue stream. Weird.

This could potentially throw a lot of people out of work in Austin which really doesn’t need more chip people looking for work given AMD’s situation.

Apple’s making big margins in finished devices and Samsung wants that action.

At the moment, we seem to have saturtation in many devices. The tablet/phone/PC market is becoming like the car market - I had a discussion with a coworker on this today. Lots of players, lots of products, companies buying and selling parts from other companies and commoditization overall with some brands able to charge a premium.

Electronics devices are lasting longer and longer like cars resulting in less opportunity for resales and upgrades. At some point, you have enough stuff, right?
