the thing about at&t that everyone is talking about is the data transfer (internet, etc.)....it is pretty slow (although 3g is better...which iphone doesn't have), and a lot slower than cdma networks like verizon and sprint.

I spent an hour at the Apple Store playing with the iPhone. It's simply amazing.Navigation, typing, etc. is a breeze. Only near negative I found is that moving the cursor to change a letter you made a mistake on is a bit annoying and somewhat sensitive. The thing that knows what word you meant to type generally works for all common words and some slang. It knew 'sup' and 'yo', but it didnt know when I meant to type 'wad' (wad of cash--some guy walked in with a wad of 20s). Other than that, it's amazing.

Getting one in late August.

sounds cool! But I'd rather wait till the price goes down (waaaaaay down!) before I even mention it to my parents!

Price doesnt matter. I'll pay it and Apple will get it.

it does for mt dad, he's the one paying. And even if it were me paying, 500 bucks is a little steep for a phone!

I might split it.

I Just Got One

THAT FAST!they were out just yesterday!

well, how is it?

no i am joking i went to the apple store yesturday on 5th avenue in ny and the line was incredible, i just called my friend and he told me that there is still a very very long line. I really want one though.

though i need a new cell phone (mine is ancient and unreliable), i am not getting the iphone. i've bought a nice laptop, a canon rebel xti and accessories within the last 40 days...with my own money. plus, i just paid like 200$ for airfare and will drop another 200 or so on concert tickets. i've already spent way to much this year...plus, i still want 300$ headphones...oh, and i already have everything that is featured on the iphone...i just don't have the luxury of being able to put it in my pocket. so yeah. i'm making a smart financial decision. for once.

You should get one of THESE too! Now that's a smart financial decision! Look at the size of it! :D

"Virtually all of our stores sold out of the iPhone last night," AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said, declining to specify how many units had been sold.

http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSN2926197120070630?feedType=RSS

that's disturbing!

My store had plenty left last night

Who the heck needs a $500 phone??

I Do.........

Who the heck needs a BMW? Or an Armani suit?

It's a phone, an iPod and a web browser, all in an iPod package. YouTube videos, too (but whoever watches them?). :)

I already saw the iphone, and it is way too big to slide in my pocket, or be considered a cell phone, seriously, it's a stupid mini computer. Enough is enough - a phone is used to communicate 1 on 1 for a couple of minutes and then voila you are done. Youtube on your cellphone, text messaging, im'ing, et cetera all just make it overwhelming. I will -not- get an iPhone, even if it were 50 bucks. New products are always great, but remember, newer is not always better. I'll stick with my simple razor (and I do not have text messaging) because I want a small phone to talk (then quickly get back on my life; the iPhone could possibly drain me due to its stupid features). Apple practices conspicuous consumption to manipulate human beings - and at a cost, both monetarily and socially.

It's an iPod, 0.4" longer than the previous model (your pocket is tiny!), with a bigger screen, web browser and a cell phone chip. After the $500, add about $1500 for the 2-year AT&T contract. Apple may not sell many more $350 iPods. Since I already carry an iPod (a few of us do), giving up the old cell phone (and its contract) sounds okay.

And the iPhone is huge!

Razr... 3.9" x 2.1" x .54"
iPhone 4.5" x 2.4" x .46"
