Ironing boards?

My husband has recently taken to ironing his shirts. Last night I actually found him ironing a shirt for my son–we were meeting him at a restaurant and son had asked for a shirt. His idea of ironing is to do the collar and the front placket, but that certainly passes the “ten-minute test.”

(The ten-minute test: will this shirt still look better (after ironing) after ten minutes are up? If, yes, iron it.)

I recently have developed a method to avoid ironing cloth napkins. I won’t use paper napkins and I love the look of freshly ironed napkins. But. After they come out of the dryer they’re nearly unwrinkled, but not quite. I rewet them, thoroughly, and spread them out flat on my countertop. They dry quite crisp, fold nicely, and don’t need to be ironed. I’m currently dealing with tennis elbow, and ironing is painful. This method is faster, easier, and not at all painful. You can’t just spread them fresh out of the wash, though, as the spin-wrinkles don’t dry smoothly.

guess I find changing your sheets everyother day to not be very environmently friendly or green-wasting water, etc

but that is just me, and while she can iron away, I think that we need to work on looking at the big picture of how we are using our resources

I just stayed in a hotel that put up notes that if you feel comfortable, they will save water by NOT washing your sheets everyday, and using the towels more than once, somethng I find really fine

It isn’t just about ironing sheets, its about be aware

sorry, i guess i should have added that i have three sets of sheets. so i wash them, with my other white clothes, dry them, iron them, and then put them on my bed and switch them every two to three days. i usually do two loads of laundry a week, whites and colored.

“And then the girls spend a lifetime being resentful of doing all the work 'cause the guys don’t ‘see’ what needs to be done.”

I quickly developed a blind eye after marriage and a couple of kids.

PS I only turned to this post today becasue I could not believe there were 3 pages of comments on ironing boards. AAHHH! Housework!

I just purchased one at Target ($19.99)

Woody–I, too, was surprised to see that this was close to page 4 status…on ironing boards…and the discussion hasn’t degenerated into an abortion or religion or other unrelated hotbed. Iron on, friends!!!

I sometimes joke that one of the reasons I married my husband is because he’s a terrific ironer. When I try to iron, I seem to create more wrinkles than there were to begin with. For 99% of our clothes, I just make sure to get them out of the dryer right away, shake, and fold.

DS moved into his apartment and one item he specifically requested was a full size ironing board. But…he’s a music major and wears “dress up clothes” at least once a week. He irons well.
