Is 15 too many colleges to apply to?

@PurpleTitan‌ I chose these colleges because feel it would do well academically and enjoy the atmosphere. My instate is Tennessee, so UTK Belmont are my safe schools. cut UIUC Penn State out if list. Also, I’m not entirely sure journalism what want just yet, other passion film studies (hence in California). friend made a mistake last year by only applying to Boston area, she recommended that be open minded about where apply for undergrad…especially since I’m since unsure about what I want to major in. I’m applying to as many scholarships as I can find. Also, I’m positive that I won’t be applying to 15 colleges…15 was just the max

Wow so sorry for so many typos…typing on an iPhone isn’t easy!

Mizzou is my state flagship. Even for OOS students good merit scholarships aren’t that hard to come by, since the Mizzou overall campus isn’t that selective or have high average test scores, yet it still has a very good journalism program for those interested on par or even better than schools such as the likes of Northwestern.

If interested in journalism, include Mizzou.
It’s often recommended to major in something such as poli-sci or economics or international relations, with a minor in a “niche” topic such as Science&Society, Environmental Science, etc, and/or digital media, before going to journalism: the profession is rapidly changing and a strong basis will be very useful to you.
Someone applying to Vassar/Barnard and Pepperdine has me scratching my head. Read about them in the Fiske Guide to see what I mean.
BU and BC have nothing in common in terms of “fit”, except they’re both in Boston. If you like BU you may like NYU or Vanderbilt on the reach side, UMN-Twin Cities or Pitt in terms of matches. If you like BC, you may like Holy Cross, UDayton, UPortland, USanDiego.
Among UCLA & UCSD, UIUC, and UTK, there must be at least two that are out of state universities, so if you need financial aid, check out what they offer in terms of merit otherwise get ready to pay full sticker price with the OOS surcharge without any financial aid (except for the federal loans: $5,5000.)

With regard to the number of schools, my DS14 applied to 11, got accepted to 4!, I think students would be wise these days to consider applying to more colleges, if we were to do so again, I would have no issue DS applying to 15 schools via CA, Common App is easy aside from cost of apps. Especially as you might apply to selective colleges, you have more leverage also come May1st.

Be sure to run net price calculators on each and every school you plan to apply to. The schools on your list vary dramatically in need-based aid, if you are hoping to qualify for any.

15 is a lot. Try narrowing it down to a max of 12.

@MrMom62‌ so it’s better to not go directly into journalism? honestly, i think that’s a great idea, and it makes the most sense to me.
