Is $50,000 poor in your area for a family of 3?

The common consensus is that you don’t know for sure what is going on. If you could prove actual fraud, it would be different, but it doesn’t seem that you can.

OP, be thankful you (or your parents) can provide a roof over your head, clothes to wear, and hot food to eat. (As well, in all likelihood, a computer, cellphone and the opportunity for a decent education). A friend of mine was at an interfaith social services presentation the other night, and in our county, 25% of the homeless HAVE JOBS. Sobering.

NH has low taxes except for property taxes.

If you’re elderly and own an expensive home, then you get socked with taxes, even with elderly discount. I don’t know the overall stats on migration but I do know a lot of older people that live here. The weather is a pain - except not this year.

There are other things - relative peace and quiet, access to Boston, the beach, the mountains and the woods, a highly educated population and we don’t get earthquakes (at least those that cause damage), tornadoes (3 a year, usually in unpopulated areas), and hurricanes (they peter out by the time they get up here). We do get flooding from time to time when we get a ton of rain but that just thins the herd of properties that shouldn’t have been built.

I’d probably love the Bay area now that I don’t have to deal with schooling issues. I think that I’d like Cambridge, Arlington or Somerville more just because I’m used to the area. There are many areas of MA where three can live for under $50K: the old cities like Worcester and Lowell. They may not be great places to live but they’re not necessarily the worst.

Sorry BCEagle91… I deleted my post because I was sick of reading my stuff…

Thanks for your reply.

If you lived in the bay area…you can work out most of the year in beautiful weather…

I visited NH once and thought it was a beautiful state…

I won’t delete this…;)

And “25 percent of the homeless have jobs” is still sobering.

poor in my area. household median in the low 6 figures.

Wow low 6 figures sounds pretty nice!

[Hawaii State Household Income | Department of Numbers](http://www.deptofnumbers.com/income/hawaii/)

In Hawaii 2010, median income was $63+ K; US median income for same period was $50+K. This is extremely low considering cost of living around here.

heh… definitely comes with downsides HImom, the median house sales are going for over $500K. And the traffic sucks. Not too far from where you son lives/works (I think). DC suburbs.

Our state has some of the worst traffic in the nation, bar none. Our median home sales prices are among the highest in the nation as well, even though our incomes are pretty awful. Many folks in our state would be happy to have incomes of 6 figures to go with the high cost of living & housing around here.
