Is a Weber Grill Worth the Extra Money?

Don’t buy any Weber propane gas grill that is less than the 699 retail price. The cheaper price points are not made in America and every grill guy I spoke to told me not to get one. I just bought the Genesis E300 black from Ace and love it. I only had it a month but have had a great time grilling on it.

Had a Weber charcoal grill back in the day. Loved it. Lasted forever, and was changed for a gas grill–a built-in and not a Weber. Oh well. But I still have the cook-book that came with it!!

Yes, Weber!!!

Our is maybe 6 yrs old, not one lick of trouble.
We grill from april till nov. the thing sits outside (with cover) the whole season.
It was a Father’s day gift to my DH. He adores it.

I have a Brinkmann and love it as well. It’s in its 3rd year of use at the moment. I looked at Weber and they had good reviews but couldn’t see spending the money. Mine is under a roof on my patio and I do have a cover for it which I use during the winter months.

If you’re not already convinced, YES Weber is worth the extra $$$ We just replaced ours this year after over 15 years of solid service. Best $400 we ever spent. You can save the $200 now and keep buying grills every 3-4 years, or just get the Weber and forget about replacement. Can’t afford to be cheap!! ;)

Was in our local Florida Target store tonight and all the patio stuff in the store was on clearance 75% off including BBQ grills! They had the 22.5" Weber charcoal kettle grills priced at $22.50–regular price $89.99.

Absolutely!!! DH is currently cleaning ours bought in 1998 for our 4th of July BBQ. It is a little tired but it still cooks beautifully. I like the dirrent zones for slow cooking ribs and beer butt chicken.

^^^ beer butt chicken…yummmmmm

So far it appears to be most (or all?) have said Weber is worth the extra money.

It seems unusual and a good endorsement. On other large purchases, such as front end washing machine, the feedback seems to be a mixed bag. Weber feedback on this thread and in conversation with friends has been consistently goo.

Our Weber gas grill is 23 years old and still going strong. We have replaced the bars and grates once. I was dumb then and didn’t replace them with the stainless steel. They will need to be replaced after this year and I’ll get the ss this time.

We keep it covered but outdoors all year. I measure the snow on the top in the winter. LOL!!

Just to add a note on customer service. I ordered a new Weber Performer grill from Amazon and it was delivered by UPS. I think it had been dropped (the box is over 100 pounds) because one corner was crushed.

The porcelin-enamelled lid had two small chips out of the porcelin finish. Over the years, I’ve learned this is a likely result of dropping the lid. Not the end of the world, I hit it with bit of high-temp grill paint (from other grill maintenance projects). I figure that I’ll ding it up worse than that.

However, I called Weber and described the damage. They asked me to snap a photo of the dings and e-mail it to them. A new grill top arrived by FedEx three days later.

I hope I am not to late to warn you-- DO NOT get the Lowes Charbroil!!!

We have 12 yrs with a weber gas grill that finally konked out & looked cruddy. Bought the Lowes CB as per consumer reports-- big stainless steel model $600? started falling apart in year 1!

1st Problem door won’t stay closed; 2nd yr- automatic lighter no longer works, thermometer breaks & it cooks unevenly - 1 side much hotter, 3rd yr gas won’t feed to the burners. My H calls Charbroil & after hours of being on hold - they advise him not made in the US, not even a real Charbroil!! the bones of it are contracted out to foreign manufacturers. Husband rebuilds & we are limping along- & not grilling as much.

Very disappointed with the CR recommendation… I guess they didn’t know.

Our Weber is now probably about 8 years old. The igniter still works. On our previous “6 year models” (the ones that we had to throw out after 6 years), we’d have to start using an electronic lighter to get it going after the first year or two.
