Is America ready for a first lady with kinky hair?

Bizzy–I respect your belief that Obama is not experienced enough and that you worry about his policies. I disagree, but you presented your argument in a concise, point-by-point way that made sense to me. Also, you didn’t imply that he’s somehow an evil hypocrite, other than noting that he’s not as squeaky clean as he’s been portrayed. (I agree. But to be elected, most of them do try to get away with looking like Mr. Clean!) …

I support Obama because I think he’s been right on Iraq all along; because I believe he’d appoint Supreme Court justices that might counterbalance the scary right-wing idealogues of the Bush administration; that he’s inclined more toward international diplomacy and thus would be less likely to start another war; that he’s best suited to help America regain some of the global respect and goodwill that has been utterly squandered by the current administration. … I don’t see him as the naked emperor at all. THAT was GW Bush. … Though I strongly support Obama, I also respect McCain and I won’t be be “moving to Canada” if he wins. (As I was tempted to do after the last two elections. :)) He’s smart, has a great sense of humor, and can laugh at himself (witness his SNL and Daily Show appearances), something I value very highly.

I love that quote! … StickerShock, I read the article you linked. Charles Krauthammer is a terrific writer and a smart guy, but he’s generally regarded as neoconservative and he clearly had an agenda in doing that piece. He doesn’t care for Obama and his writing showed that very clearly, and not always fairly. Others, more favorable toward Obama, have written similarly articulate, far more positive articles.

Hindoo - I’ve got a reply to your post but I’m out the door to get on the river. (Huge festival here!).

Have fun! :)

So much for a thread about Michele’s hair style…
But of course, even a thread about which breed of dog the Obamas ought to pick, when all this election hoopla is said and don, would sooner or later (likely sooner) result in some Obama hater starting in on a tirade.

So…the next question might be…what kind of dog do you think the Obamas will adopt?

You’re probably right, Poetsheart. Alas. … My advice to the Obamas is to get a mutt from the pound. Not only will they be doing a good thing, but Obama haters couldn’t get away with calling them elitist. On the other hand, the dog might be accused of living above himself.

I would suggest a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (a breed I’d seriously consider for myself), but of course, that would undoubtedly result in an accusation of elitism—LOL! I love golden retrievers, too. But I’m afraid they require a bit more consistent exercise and running room than I can currently guarantee. Goldens are, however, a quintessentially “American” breed. If they make it to the White House (which I highly doubt), a Golden might be a good pick. Of course, a mutt would indeed be most PC. But even that choice would be seen by some as “deliberate”, and somehow, dishonest.

I agree about the mutt choice, but if they want an all American breed, then I vote for the Boston Terrier - at the risk of the mention of Boston suggesting elitism.

I couldn’t care what kind of dog they get, as long as they keep up the tradition of putting a camera on the dogs collar for showing the White House at Christmas. I loved the Barney cam!

If I had to vote…I am going with my dog that we rescued from the Rescue society…White Boxer, they have a deep bark, but are the most loving dogs I have ever known,(& I have run the gamut…mutts, dachshunds, borders, and cocker spaniels)

He would be living in the one of the grandest houses in the country and hobnobbing with all the elite top dogs, so it’s more likely he would be accused of falsely inflating his stray dog/pound dog roots for political gain.

Good point!

Hindoo - I’ll save my reply for a later time lest I be accused of a “tirade” (altho’ I’m no “Obama Hater” - oh wait, if I mute the t.v. & cover his face with my foot when he’s talking does that make me a "hater??).

So I was going to give you another point-by-point post, but it probably wouldn’t convince you of anything right now. haha! I’ll just wait till YOU’RE giving ME the point-by-point about why MCCAIN is the one to vote for, and you just can’t believe you didn’t realize it sooner! :)

Don’t everyone hate ME just cause I spent the whole day (most of it) anchored out in a little slice of river, floating around watching the birds, cobia & dolpins play. Beautiful sun, green grass, blue sky and cold drinks - ah! Now that’s livin’! (Plus DS1 finally got home for the summer yesterday!).

It’s a great day to be me - haha!

Now, if we could just pay our bills all would be well!

Poet, that would not make you an elitist – that would make you a person of good taste. I am still “devastated” that the folks at the Westminster dog competition chose an average looking beagle when they could have chosen a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Poetsheart and razorsharp-
Thank you both for talking about something of importance- Cavalier King Charles Spaniels !! (LOL) We had a wonderful cavalier that we adopted from a cavalier rescue in 1999. He was an absolutely incredible dog . Sadly, he passed away of mitral valve disease that plagues many if not most cavaliers.

Is anyone from Canada or England perchance reading this thread? There is a story I have heard (I am sure I am getting the details wrong) about British law requiring all hotels to allow King Charles Spaniels, and that the Ritz somewhere in CAN tried to prevent a person from bringing in their dog (they had a no pet policy) and that this was eventualy successfully challenged in the courts? Sorry to hijack the thread, but I wondered if anyone had details about this. Ok, back to kinky hair.

First of all bz, you’ve never been known to “tirade!” Second, if you mute the TV and cover Obama’s face with your foot … hmmm. I’ll bet he’s not feeling the love. … Honestly, I was hoping you’d return from your festival yesterday to give ME a point-by-point analysis of your ephipany–and your sudden conversion to the Obama camp! … Indeed, let’s get back to hair. … By the way, has anyone here seen the latest Jib-Jab video? It’s hilarious.

Dunno Hindoo - someone mentioned “Obama haters going on a tirade” so I was afraid they meant moi.

The jib-jab video is funny - I’ve enjoyed all their political stuff.
“Time for Some Campaignin’” is what it’s called in case anyone wants to know.

And Hindoo - while there is much to be admired about Obama, I’d never in a million years vote for someone so inexperienced AND so radical. A VERY dangerous combination!

I’m sure this week the msm will be telling us all how wuuunderful he is tho’.
