Is anyone who get admitted not going to attend?

After browsing the decision threads and reading the disappointment of such qualified applicants., it seems rather sad that there is such a number of students that had no intention of accepting. There are probably a number of applicants that would have given just about anything to be accepted and now have been rejected or waitlisted by students that put their application forward on a whim…rather sad

<p>And it’s not like I applied just to see if I can get in. Duke is my absolute dream school (hardcore Duke basketball fan and all). But I just can’t justify paying full tuition when I have a full ride coupled with research and study abroad opportunities at another fine institution. I’m sure others find themselves in similar situations.</p>

<p>In fact, if Duke only admitted those whom they knew were going to attend (hypothetically if they could see into the future) then they would admit only 1700 students and the acceptance rate would be just 6-7%.</p>
