IS DECA a famous Extra Curricular in AMERICA?

I’ve been in DECA for four years, and it is an extremely fun business club. I’ve written 30 page business plans starting the night before its due and won top 3 awards over kids working on it for months. aha. as long as ur a good public speaker and you eloquently word ur business plan, using a lot of business terms etc., you should do fine. the role play events are amazing. You just really have to extemporize on the spot and i’ve won 1st place loads of times there. Didn’t help me out too much with colleges though which was quite surprising. I got a 4.22, 2200 SAT, and won loads of these awards, plus sports, e.c etc., but i got rejected from a bunch of mediocre schools! pretty sad, but don’t do it for college, do it cuz its fun and if u like business

I disagree about someone saying that DECA is not helpful for colleges. I know a lot of people from my school who got into Top 10 schools and were in DECA. They did a lot of other things too obviously, but DECA was their main extracurric, and clearly it paid off for them.

It all depends on how well you can market yourself and your extent of involvement in DECA to the admissions people. Like I said before, if you can get a state officer position, it will help you a lot. Many past state officers (I know many because I’m a state officer myself) have succeeded in going to top colleges. DECA is definitely a good club for colleges.

DECA is soooo great. I’m going to nationals this year!
