Is elementary school still a joke?

momof1–your class sounds fantastic too. I think what is going on at our school may be due to the administrators’ interpretation of how to teach the standards. They seem not to trust the teachers to do their jobs and are telling them how to teach, and what they can and cannot spend time doing in the classroom. At least that’s what I’m guessing. I can’t think of any other reason why things have changed so much–these are the same teachers that used to do so many more fun things in their classrooms just a couple of years ago.

Anyway, all I know is I used to be in awe of this school, and now I am seriously trying to find another school for my youngest child!

This thread reminds me of why I was so bothered by the “Science Project”. At my kids’ school it was required in grades 4-6, and it was orders of magnitude more difficult than their normal work.

And worse, it’s A Competition: Science Fair Night, ribbons, and advancement to regionals. I don’t know who was most stressed - students, parents, or teachers.
