The previous owner of our house painted the master bedroom very depressing, poop-grey color - all of it, including the ceiling. The dark stained wood trim added to the depressive look. It took me 3 5-gallon buckets of high grade primer to cover that paint. Now it is cream with white trim. Thank goodness it was just paint! The next owner can go to town with grey as they please.
Yes, I think we’ve learned our lesson about colored appliances. Avocado green ovens are not flexible to the next owner’s color scheme!
I read about a woman who went crazy for stainless steel finish. Everything had to be stainless steel, even the toilet. There ARE NO stainless steel toilets - unless you get them from a prison supplier like she did! Yikes!!!
P.S. I doubt it had any fancy bidet features, lol.
I love CC. Now I know where to get a stainless steel toilet if I ever want one =))
I don’t know why but that really tickled my funny bone.
I did not know what greige was. My son and his fiancée painted their 3rd bedroom/office a grey and it is really nice. Their house is really light though. I badly need to repaint and would like to go away from white but my house does not have a lot of natural lighting so I am not sure how grey would work.
I was brought up in a house that had grey living and dining rooms and I really like the color. To me, it’s a timeless color, just like white kitchens.
Omg, I was at an estate sale yesterday and the kitchen had an avocado green fridge and wall oven. They had to be at least 40 years old.
They should pull them out and sell them to one of those places that has “vintage” things for movie and TV sets. You never know…
My now two years ago downsize house is a medium to darker grey in the living and dining rooms, as well as one bedroom, probably painted for resale. It is peaceful and sets off bright colors in artwork well, but is a less than happy or motivating color, especially in a north facing house. Coming home from a recent trip makes me realize I need lighter and happier colors around me. With darker oak trim, this is just too serious a color.
My 1900 sq foot house has butter yellow living room, mint green spare room, tangerine orange downstairs bathroom, sunshine yellow, celery green, sky blue upstairs bedrooms. I like color.
Had to look this term up. Great if you like it. I’ve never decorated our home for the next buyer. We like color and we decorate accordingly. Who cares what magazines say? We’ve never had a problem selling due to decor but would repaint if necessary to sell a property as it’s the easiest/cheapest accommodation to make.
D just bought a house & painted the rooms in shades of gray. Each color looks different depending on the lighting, and it’s very important to consider that with grays … they can pull different undertones. Her house looks awesome.
I’ll be updating a house over the next year and appreciate all of the color suggestions. I’m headed to the Benjamin Moore store this week to pick up samples. I have always liked neutral walls and want to know what to plan since floors will be updated too. I’ll have plenty of light year round (in FL) so I like adding accent colors in other ways.
I recommend the Laurel Bern blog to people looking for color advice.
