Is it good EC to make a website and dedicate ur time to it for admissions?

i have seen some friends create websites to make money off of and i was wondering if it would be beneficial to put that on your app? like is it something that could really differentiate you from others? just like this website my friend created [Whoops America!](http://www.whoopsamerica.com)

He uploads articles like everyday and that is an EC right?

anyone???

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/738975-does-maintaining-website-count-ec.html</a></p>

It depends…

That website would probably send the wrong message to admissions officers.

well its not my website. but why is that?

Probably because it has articles about Miley Cyrus pole dancing.

It seems like an anti-American website.

Content aside, that website is from a template, right? Anyways, here is my heirarchy of websites in terms of college admissions goodness:

 1. self-programmed/coded website which makes like 2000+ dollars per year or does a noble service (like complimentary online tutoring) that is utilized a ton.
2. templated website which makes 2000+ dollars per year or does a free service that is utilized a ton.
3. self-programmed/coded website which makes a fair sum of money (100 plus) or does a free service that is somewhat utilized.
4. self-programmed/coded website which makes a few dollars/cents or nothing and does not do a free service.
5. templated website which makes a fair sum of money (100 plus) or does a free service that is somewhat utilized.
6. templated website makes a few dollars/cents or nothing and does not do a free service.

These rankings are ASSUMING equal points on the money and visitor scale between templated and self made. Like a templated website that makes 1 million is clearly better than a self-made one which makes 2000. 4 and 5 depend on the money made. If it is 100 on a template, I’d put that below self-made no money. But if the template made 1999 I’d move 5 up to 4 and possibly 3.

Just my 2 cents.

i just checked out that site, it looks pretty good. dude did you read any of the articles its like a humor site… haha your way too uptight if you think its anti american…

i think you should look at their about us page i doubt these kids are anti american…

they go to school to some of the top business schools in the us…pretty damn impressive if you ask me

to gramma groza: thanks for the help i’m not sure if they used a template to make it or if they did it themselves i’ll have to email them and ask about it… so if i could code something like that colleges would like it… i’m not sure if i should dedicate time to that or to other extra curricular… but thanks so much for the help!

to soadquake981: i think you have the complete wrong idea of the site…my friend is def. not anti american lol… you should read their about us page… it explains their ideas behind the site…i think its pretty good

I also applied to MIT. There was an applicant-made site: [MIT Admissions](http://mymit.info/) which was a look-alike rip of the real [MIT Admissions](http://www.mitadmissions.org/) blogs.

out of all of the applicants who were involved, all deferred in the Early action admission cycle, none were admitted.

draw your own conclusions.
