I bought these at the last minute for comfort. I had higher dressier heels, but was afraid that the rooftop wedding lacked seating (which it did!) These shoes had padding, good arch, and lower heel.
@sseamom - I usually wear silver or copper flat sandals. I could also wear this wedge sandal: http://www.lordandtaylor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/lord-and-taylor/brands/special-occasion-54154–1/franzea-laminato-pu-wedge-sandals
I also have a pair of sparkly ballet flats I wear occasionally.
A female friend of mine had to evacuate a burning dorm building, way way back when she was a student. When she tried to shimmy down the sloped roof, her nightgown got caught on the roof surface, and the dress slipped up over her head. She wasn’t wearing any underwear.
I can’t get over the idea that patent leather is dressy for adults. It reads 4 year old girl from the '60’s with frilly underpants (ahem).
Patent leather opinions run the gamut.
No 4 yo girl from the '60s I knew ever wore these, which are about as classic of a shoe as you can get. Were you thinking black patent Mary Janes with thick straps?
Yep!
Pretty. But some still feel patent is plastic. Me? I love it, in the right styles. When I was younger, my mother used to insist you couldn’t wear patent after Labor Day. I don’t think she ever owned it.
“Sometimes one just has to bluntly state the obvious to some people
Wiener on Tuesday proposed legislation that would ban the exposure of genitals or buttocks on all city sidewalks, plazas, parklets, streets and public transit.”
Wait, I had to google that one. I thought you were talking about Anthony Weiner, wondering if he was back in office. And talking about banning exposure of genitals. What???
Any opinions on men in kilts for Black Tie?
But patent leather ISN’T plastic. It’s a process for lacquering leather that’s been around since…well a really long time. I had a beautiful, comfortable pair of black patent leather shoes that I would wear in the Spring. A long time ago, but I miss them, and they weren’t for little girls.
GMT, I personally love a man in a kilt.
^ Didn’t know that. But what passes for PL can also be vinyl or plastic. And I also love the look of formal kilts. I think you’re only supposed to wear them if you are genuinely associated with the tartan-?
I love men in kilts! I seriously wish the men-in-skirts thing would catch on generally. I was at my daughter’s school play and someone’s dashing 75-year old grandfather showed up in a gorgeous charcoal grey skirt/kilt outfit that looked like it was John Paul Gaulthier or something and he looked beyond incredible. It was very, very masculine looking.
Well, that’s true, but I guess it’s the same as any fake leather product. You know when you’re buying the real deal. We have a window cleaning service in NJ where the guys all wear kilts. They wear tee shirts that say “NO PEEKING.”
I can’t wear super high / spikey heels. But… gotta admit that I personally think they are ugly. I understand that most people find them attractive, and that’s fine… But I have no regrets that I can’t wear them myself. DH has no idea how much we save because I’m into comfort (sometimes mildly pricey), not high fashion.
I never could be comfortable in heels over 1-2 inches. Hopefully it will help me avoid the podiatrist and chiropractor. I’m glad I have comfortable options and don’t care much whether the footwear is or is not “cute” to others.
^^^Same here. Mobility, being able to walk fast and unrestricted, as well as long-term knee, spine, and foot health is so much more important to me than the ‘cute’ factor.
Who said the two - cute and comfy - cannot coexist in the same pair?
Lots of the shoes I see described on CC as cute have heels I could never walk in, inadequate padding for the sole of the foot and heel and insufficient arch support.
Very few shoes that have sufficient padding & arch supports are considered “adorable,” but I honestly don’t care and just want comfortable shoes that I can wear and walk for hours without pain–while I wear them and afterwards. I consider my shoes attractive enough and extremely comfortable.
Don’t look at me - I wear flats all the time. Even ballet flats with no support to BB’s horror :-). I do occasionally wear heels, but only for a special occasion.
Who said you have to wear heels to be fashionable?? Makes no sense to me.
