Is it just me or is everyone gone around the bend with "casual"

Hmmm, these do not look all that different from T-shirts:

Hmmmm, that isn’t what I’m talking about. I’m talking about a strappy tank, not a tee. I think you’re kind of out of your league when you start speculating on women’s fashion.

You mean like these?

You could have written “strappy tank” or included the word “sleeveless” with “Lululemon type athletic top”.

I like Cole Haan shoes too. Just bought these loafers. A 20-something who was sitting at the next table at the restaurant where we had dinner, tapped me on the shoulder and told me she loved my loafers and thought they were “fun”.

I broke my ankle and still have some hardware in it (screws)–as a result, I have a hard time finding shoes that work for my foot. I like some of the Tod’s shoes and have a pair of the Gommino driving shoes that I love, but they just don’t have enough support for me and I can barely get through a day wearing them. One brand of flats that I’ve found offers IMO a little more support than others is the ALG brand, which is sold at Nordstroms. Also, this summer I found a new shoe store where we’ve got a summer place–store is called Charleston Shoe Company. I bought a couple of pairs of sandal/wedge type of shoes that are great for the summer and really comfortable.

The women on here would know what I meant. You’re just kind of guessing and doing your usual super-literal thing.

We went to a concert at the Hollywood Bowl last week and with this thread in mind I was more observant of the surrounding fashion than usual. It was John Fogerty, so the majority of the crowd was 50’s and 60’s, but with a good sprinkling of younger people thrown in. It was pretty funny to see a good portion of the older crowd in apparently the same clothes they were wearing in 1969, the year the concert was centered around. I almost felt overdressed in loose linen pants and shirt with strappy sandals. My SIL fit in perfectly with his vintage CCR T and flannel shirt lol.

It’s ok, ucb. You’re not the only one who would’ve gathered that conclusion from the wording provided.

I have to say I thought Tshirt too.

It didn’t matter to me whether she meant T or tank. Either way, her point was about the under-dressing, the butt bite.

I specifically suggested to her that she put on a t-shirt, which I thought made it self explanatory that she wasn’t wearing a shirt that looked like a t-shirt – but never mind, no deed goes unpunished.

You know, I ran 16 miles with a bare midlife midriff today… it was 80+ degrees by the time I finished. Folks on the Diet… etc. thread know what I’m talking about. I carried a Lulu tee in my hand just in case we would decide to hit the brewery for lunch! But I showered and changed into my favorite maxi dress for running errands later in the day. It was 90+ degrees, and I felt every comfy in my outfit. Thank you, ModCloth!

Ucb, since you are Mr. Literal, Google “lululemon athletic top” (no quotes) and hit images. That’s what people think of when they think of a Lululemon athletic top because they are known for this look.

I’ve heard of the brand and looked through their website in the past, but I would have no idea what tops they are known for either. …

Both my D and W wear a lot of lululemon for working out. When I hear “lululemon athletic top” I automatically picture active workout gear like a sports bra under a tight athletic tank top. It common casual eating out or running around gear for women in my neighborhood.

I think we are just envious of the ability to wear short shorts in public without becoming self concious.

I knew exactly what pizzagirl meant. It was clear even if you aren’t a Lulu expert.

Athletic wear has become so pretty that people wear their clothes everywhere. Women my age rarely wear the shorts at gym or in public, but the young people and some of the trainers do. I wish I had bought stock in this industry.

I skipped many pages of this thread, but just have to comment that in our neck of the woods (NC/VA), I’m seeing many kids dress up more for daily life.

My beautiful niece, age 24, wears only dresses (unless she’s at the gym) and big wide brimmed hats when she’s outside (she loves her pale unfreckled skin - smart girl!) Even at night at home she doesn’t change out of her dresses.

My daughter, age 20, is more mixed, and wears jeans a lot. Rarely wears athletic shorts outside of the gym or at home. We’ve been shopping for a beginning professional wardrobe for her, which is fun!

My son, age 17, wears only chino type pants, saying they’re much more comfortable than jeans. He wears solid colored t-shirts with them, and always sneakers. In cool weather he adds a nice solid zip up hoodie (J Crew). That also fits his dress code for work (he’s a computer technician after school). I haven’t seen him wear shorts outside the house in a year or two.

As far as planes go - I read a book many years ago that talked about how dangerous flip-flops and nylon clothing is if a plane has to be evacuated or crashes. I forced my kids to wear sneakers or flats and cotton clothes. They think I’m crazy, but I couldn’t get the story of the woman wearing synthetic clothing that melted onto her skin out of my mind.

So how about casual when it comes to entertaining? I’m probably the only one in the universe who doesn’t use paper products.

^Nah. We never use paper products for dining, whether entertaining or just us, not even paper napkins. But that’s more of an environmental thing than a style thing.
