Is it normal for girls to tell guys to put the toilet seat down... NOW?

And if I regularly sat half-naked, exposing my genitals, on my kitchen sink you’d have a point :stuck_out_tongue: Whenever I use a public bathroom usually I peek into a few stalls and notice the toilet seat isn’t entirely clean and move onto the next one - so even if they’re cleaned daily, they’re used so often they’re bound to be disgusting. Even when people wipe the seat, they’re just spreading their urine around (I know urine is sterile, just don’t like rubbing my ass in it).

See, we mathematically proved you have to put the seat down : D

“2) Everyone (guys included) should always put the seat down, but not out of politeness for girls. No, you should put the seat down because that’s the only way to put the cover down, which is your only line of defense during flushing against fecal mist landing on you and your toothbruth.”

I was going to make this point, but you beat me to it.

Other than that, I really don’t care about the seat up/down business. I look before I sit, if no other reason than to double check that there’s no residue on the seat that I don’t want to sit in. After having my nieces live with me at different points and still visiting frequently, I always try to make sure I don’t sit in any stray tinkle. :)

So for me, the seat up/down thing is a non-issue other than that in my house when I am an adult I’d like to enforce a rule to put the lid down before flushing for the germ reasons. The only thing that really bothers me regarding bathroom manners is leaving urine/excrement/menstrual blood on the seat, and not washing hands after going. The second one is what gets me because I’ve met guys who think because they don’t wipe they don’t have to wash their hands after. Yuck.

EDIT: Just to answer the OP’s question, I think your roommate was being ridiculous. I guess you learned your lesson, though I don’t agree with the requirement that guys are supposed to put the seat down anyway.

OI! At first, I thought you were talking about not wiping after a Number Two.

“menstrual blood on the seat”

i think i threw up a little in my mouth

^better than throwing up on the toilet seat

apparently

I don’t think it’s unfair, because if I forget to put the seat back down I literally FALL INTO THE TOILET. If you forget to put it up you miss and have to clean up your own mess.

I get annoyed when I visit my fiance and he doesn’t put the seat down because he also doesn’t clean his bathroom quite to my standards and I hate having to touch his toilet seat.

In our Western society, it is customary and appropriate to ensure that the seat of the toilet (and the second lid, if it has one) are down when the toilet is not in use.

If you fail to do so, you will be ridiculed and/ or deemed an as_hole.

Obviously, many people who frequent this site/ attend nerdy prestigious universities are socially ■■■■■■■■, and thus why this debate even exists.

You must leave the seat/ lid down for the following reasons:

Courtesy to the women folk. Usually you will have to put the seat down when taking a dump anyway, so its a 50/50 gamble for your own convenience anyway.

As some other poster mentioned, leaving a lid on the toilet keeps the noxious airborne fecal matter particles within the toilet. Probably helps smells too.

A lid down will keep dogs from drinking out of it.

The bare rim is usually covered with p!ss/ other things and is unsightly. Granted, some of you may have bedrooms that look like defecation-laden cesspools anyway, but at least attempt to ‘keep it classy,’ alright?

Women will think you are socially oblivious and have never lived with a woman/ have never had an ongoing sexual relationship before.

Put it down, or aim well. It’s that simple, really.

^haha agreed. It’s kinda strange because in my home we have 3 guys and my mom is the only woman. My mom has asked me in the past why I bother leaving the toilet seat down after I finish hahaha

But yes putting the lid down for guys should be done out of courtesy.

just put the seat down and don’t ask questions.

^^And that is why YOU are a future executive.
