<p>Sikorsky: I don’t recall the totality of my friend’s situation. I believe it stemmed from the fact that she and parents spent the bulk of saved money for the HYP degree and had to seek major loans and scholarship for Med school. She would have preferred to have zero cost undergrad and more money to apply to Med despipte our attending a school known for wonderful undergrad experience (you know which one). Her remark still rings clear in my memory. BTW: I was wrong about UoI. She ended up at Rush Medical College in Chicago and now practices in Chgo (I just googled her)</p>

<p>I was in the exact same boat a couple of months ago, except I wanted to go pre-med. I was accepted to Cornell, WashU, and Northwestern, but was offered an amazing scholarship from Tulane. </p>
<p>I talked with a couple of people applying to medical school at the time and was told that medical schools don’t care where you go for undergrad. One of them that went to UChicago said he was not making great grades even though he is very smart, and said I should go to Tulane because my GPA will be higher there. On the other hand, the connections and opportunities at Tulane will not be the same as they are in Brown. </p>
<p>As for the grad v. undergrad debt thing… I was under the impression that while med schools don’t care about undergrad, residencies do care about med school… and jobs opportunities place emphasis on your residency.</p>
<p>I ended up choosing Tulane, and I do not regret it.</p>
<p>ihatebacon: there’s no such thing as a pre-dental school nor a pre-med program. To get ready to apply to either, the schools require you to take a suite of particular classes. You can be a film major while fulfilling your pre-dental school requirements. </p>
<p>And to say again: dentists don’t graduate from medical school. I’m sorry but if this isn’t clear enough to you , you have no business pursuing dentistry.</p>
<p>doing premed from an ivy will help you get into medical school later. it won’t be the main factor but it will look at least a bit impressive</p>
