Have you considered getting neuropsych testing for a learning disability? Many high functioning people have isolated learning deficits that go unnoticed throughout high school.
You may be missing some part of the foundation you need so that even when you figure out how to push the numbers around well enough to do the problems, you’re still not really “getting” it. If you don’t know what that is, you can’t really articulate where you need help. My family moved a lot when we were growing up so I ended up with “holes” in a number of subjects where the curricula at the different schools didn’t match up, and these holes were almost always the source of chronic confusion in the subjects I felt like I’d never master.
My advice is to keep using this math and keep practicing. If you encounter an issue, REALLY break it down to figure out where you’re not understanding. In all likelihood, it’s something that feeds into the skills you need rather than the problem you’re trying to solve. Also, try to do real life problems. If you’re a practical or visual thinker, this might help you “see” how the pieces fit together.
For me, any language once you get to past, or especially, future constructs (eg not just simple present tense).
Yep. For me it was “finite dimensional vector spaces.”
UPDATE: my TA made a calculation error so I actually recieved a B in that class
