Is it risky if only one college has accepted you yet?

Something may have changed but I just scoped OPs original thread and this was the math sequence posted:

Honors Algebra 1 (8th grade): A
Honors Geometry (9th): C+
Algebra II: B+
Precalc: B
AP calc AB: D

Okay, thanks - I guess I hallucinated the BC thing. That means there’s no fallback to switch into unless her school has non-AP calc, which I didn’t know was a thing until recently, but apparently it does exist at some schools. There is the question of whether she could drop the class altogether, which still might not be acceptable to Rutgers but could allow her to apply to CCSC without calc. Nothing wrong with applying to a less-competitive engineering program with precalc only. But dropping HS classes isn’t always straightforward or even possible.

I’m applying to CCSU in case I get rescinded, I’ve spoken to my counselor and calc teacher, my counselor says that “getting rescinded” is very rare and not likely unless I’m failing all my classes (which I’m doing fine in AP Physics 1 & 2). IDK if I should take her word though since she also recommended me a bunch of “reach schools” as my targets. My math teacher said to keep working and push my grade up to a B or A so I don’t fail AP Calc and he has more “small assignments” this unit to keep things easier this quarter

I don’t think it’s a math issue because I self studied up until precalc and passed with B’s and A’s and now only I’m struggling with calculus AB

What do you mean when you say you self studied these subjects? Did you not have a teacher? Or are you saying that you just didn’t have any additional tutoring assistance?

If you were getting As & Bs in math before you got to Calc AB, I would see if there’s a resource (perhaps Khan Academy) where you can take a math test and see which areas you’re weaker in, and then review those areas during the summer. Grading was often more lax during Covid and afterwards, because people were needing to learn from home or because teachers knew that students hadn’t learned all they needed to learn in previous coursework (due to Covid). So it could be that the difficulty in calculus is also because it’s highlighting gaps in your preparation up to now.

Glad you have the CCSU application in, and looking forward to hearing how you end up making your college decision!
