I just opened and read through this post for the first time tonight. I was relieved when I got to the part where it was said she was coming home. it sometimes just doesn’t work out. I find it very disappointing they don’t do a better orientation for their new students. My daughter was so nervous her first day - sent us a text saying she wanted to come home, but she’d try to make the best of it. By noon they had her busy doing things with her group. They made sure that kids ate meals with either their floor or orientation group all week. These are easy things that make a huge difference. Your daughter will go somewhere else that will be a much better fit for her.
I haven’t been here in a long time but I wanted to provide an update. All is well. My daughter came home, still qualified for free community college based on her high school stats, and finished her AA in 10 months, while working a wonderful part-time internship. She’s now doing an internship program that is away from home, while continuing toward her bachelor’s online. She did most of CC online and is very comfortable with that. This little false start at residential college was a blip on her life’s radar.
I just want to express hope for other families going through similar experiences. Yes, do-overs can work out just fine.
