I think the fail rate on Enviro is so high because many of the people who take it self-study. Enviro is one of the few AP courses not offered at my school, and I’ve never heard anybody ask a question about their enviro class here on CC. That means the material isn’t necessarily harder (many think it is quite easy, in fact), but the level of preparation just isn’t there.

I don’t know, Hamster. I see what you’re saying, but … at my school, AP Env Sci was offered for the first time in a few years. I don’t know what the scores were like in the past, but in my class, some of the [relative] “slackers” took the exam.

… What I mean to say is that Env Sci is supposedly the easy science - kind of an alternative to AP Bio - and there are a lot of slackers in the class who just take the AP in hopes to get exempt from the final.

I think that most people who take it self-study should be able to do fine. I don’t know how hard people generally work on self-study APs, but with the quality of my Env Sci class [movies every day, basically, with a first-year AP teacher], I felt that I basically self-studied it. If people who self-study generally work harder (I don’t know if this is true?), the fail rate should not be affected.
