Oh, it’s not about morality, is it? Really?

…wait, do I see the word moral in there? Hmm, guess I do. Well, it couldn’t have been you who wrote that… oh wait, it was. Moving on.

Could you make any more stupid implications in one post? I don’t “decide to **** up my health” - because I drink in moderation, and practice safe sex. Neither do I use drugs very often at all - though even if I did, the drug that I have used on ocassion (pot, not really enamored of anything harder) has not been reliably shown to cause major long term health problems.

Neither do I do these things “just to have a ‘social life’”. Artful use of the quotes around social life by the way, as if you’re implying that I don’t actually have one. I drink because I like the taste of many of the drinks that contain alcohol (especially beer… yum), and because I like the effect that alcohol has on me, in the context of a party. I don’t need it to enjoy myself, but it’s fun.

Now, as for your misguided comment about trouble with the law. I live in Canada. There are places here where it is perfectly legal for me to drink (and it’s legal to have sex everywhere, so I can only assume you weren’t referring to that), and I have been to those places several times. I’ve also been to Europe, where the drinking age is very low, and also have been to Holland, where certain drugs aren’t illegal.

Basing your morals off the law of the land is a crappy idea, in my opinion. Have a spine, make your own mind up about these ideas. And once you have, then don’t use the law as some kind of support for your ideas (especially since not everyone is subject to the same laws you are).

Your next paragraph didn’t make any sense, since I never derided your “social life” (see, I can quote things too).

To go on a slightly different tack here: have you ever used caffeine? (I’m assuming the answer is yes, even if you say it’s not, because caffeine is too pervasive, and is a component of too many foods/drinks, for you to not have had it at least once) That’s a drug too. Did you know that? Does that make you an imperfect abstainer? Does having used caffeine make you immoral?

I hope this has pointed out to you what your folly has been here. Your problem is, you made your own moral judgment, and then went and told others that it applied to them, and that they were (by some kind of objective measure) not as perfect as you, the “perfect abstainer”. The whole thing is patent bull. Firstly, moral jugments are relative to many things, and second, you’re not an objective observer. Both of these things disqualify your opinion.

Have a good day.
