Is My List OK?

I agree with Consolation. Your stats are great, so why not reach high?

agree x 3!!! Push the envelope, rocket…amazing stats!

Will you also apply to CBHP at UA… They want more females in the program and with your stats, you’d have a great chance.

Pennsylvania makes your chances weaker than Alabama, but they are still good.

Muhlenberg is very strong in both theater and premed and they are very generous with merit money as well, if you are looking for another co-ed LAC. You also might like Dickinson.

I’m curious…what does this mean? How does Pennsylvania make her chances weaker? Or maybe I’m misunderstanding the quote.

I’d suggest Lawrence as a Match LAC and Hanover as a Safety LAC.

Rocket…

How much aid/merit $$ do you need? How much can you contribute each year? If not much, then are you looking for full rides or near full rides? Are you planning on taking out student loans for whatever scholarships don’t cover? I see that you’ve stated that your family can’t/won’t contribute. Does that also mean that they won’t pay for transportation for you to come home during holidays and at the end of school year?

The reason that I’m asking is that some colleges that have been suggested do give merit money to a competitive few kids, but even those awards are only covering about 1/3 of the total cost to attend. So, if you would need more, please let us know so we can suggest schools that would likely reward your stats with more money.

I realize that you may want to work part time during the school year and more hours in the summer, but I also know that college kids need “pocket money” so I’m guessing that much that could be earned during the school year would be mainly for day-to-day expenses.

Top LACs look for geographic diversity. Pomona is hardest for CA applicants, and does draw a good number from the Northeast, but markedly fewer from the South.

As far as merit money, I prob need about 10k or so. My parents are will to provide transportation, but books and all other expenses are mine. Luckily our EFC is about 8k/year
I am more than willing to take out loans as long as it is reasonable.
That being said, the more money, the better…especially merit money!

Merit money does not cover EFC unless it first EXCEEDS your need. So you would need 40k of merit just to cover need with all grants–your choices are essentially a) generous need-based schools or b) full ride. Take your best shot at the no-loans schools, since they will save you nearly 5k/year off your EFC (you can apply student loans to the EFC rather than the school’s aid package).

Rocket…

Will you also apply to CBHP at UA… They want more females in the program and with your stats, you’d have a great chance. It’s an awesome program. This is my son’s 3rd year in it.

And, what will your major(s) be? I remember something about theatre and neuroscience. Would the neuroscience fall under biology? Asking because of possible department scholarships.

^^i haven’t decided if i’m applying to CBHP. I think I will
If i go to UA, I will be a chem major/psych double major. They don’t offer neuroscience sadly

re post #26: far, far fewer students from Deep South state like Alabama apply to elite LACs than students from California, Northeastern, and Mid Atlantic states like Pennsylvania. Since elite LACs generally value geographic diversity, being from Alabama helps a bit.

Well, good luck if you do apply to CBHP…

BTW…is neuroscience often a graduate or PhD program?
