Is NYU near Fifth Avenue?

Lol I just said the Stern building is located on Washington square park…to be more specific, it is on West 4th street Washington square south, right next to the library, across from the NYU starbucks and a Steinhardt building…it’s a nice area. The building, like most NYU buildings, is ugly as sin. What is it you’re looking for? be more specific - “how is it around Stern?” is vague…

South of 125th on the West. South of 96th on the East.

To the OP - Avenues run up and down the island. Streets run left to right, west and east, respectively. Which, to someone out of NY, saying that Broadway runs through the slums of Harlem is going to put them in a bit of a shell shock. Practically every avenue has their rich crossroads and their poor.

Upper East Side - Like many have stated, very rich area. Old money. Known for it’s GORGEOUS Brownstones on Park Avenue. Central Park. More of a ‘quiet’ setting, totally different than the feel you get in Times Square. You’ll find most, if not all, of your top designers here.

NYU, The Village, SoHo, etc - Downtown (subjective name, I use ‘downtown’ when referring to anything below 13th). There are still rich people here. You’ll see the kids from Ohio rocking out on their trust fund, and then you will see the true hard-working artists, who are trying to survive (and excel) in the city. SoHo is the trendiest place in New York. In fact, a lot international designers are attracted to the area. For instance, Topman (a British designer) and Uniqlo (from Japan) both opened their first United States stores in SoHo. Both happen to be on Broadway, as well! (Along with the ever-so-popular H&M and Urban Outfitters). Topman was also located on Howard Street under Opening Ceremony, but the store is literally a hole in the wall and everything is either L, XL, or XXXL. Bloomingdales is also there, Diesel is, Burberry - All of the good designers (and stores).

Trust me - The least of your problems is finding affluent fashionable people and/or stores.

Edit - Oh, and there is wunderbloc.com. It’s a site about NYC Fashion. Boutiques, pictures and more. (Not trying to advertise; just felt the site fits with the topic).

You’d be surprised how rich some people who go to NYU are.

good post .

If your thinking about shopping stick to Soho. They have some great stores and cafes. A lot of the shops are semi-reasonable and it is a “trendier” place to be. I doubt a college student could afford traditional 5th avenue since its beyond expensive.

never heard of them. but there are 2 stores in soho that i really like. managing money is going to be real difficult though.

AMG, unless you are a trustfunder, I thought that you might find this interesting!
