Is one month enough time to study for the PSAT?

I am taking the psat on oct 18 and i really want to become a national merit semifinalits. I have been studying for a week and i still have 1 month to study? Is that enough though? What is the cut off score for California? I heard its tough.

It was 217 in California last year. Did u take it as a sophomore? We cant really tell you how you will do if we don’t know you, but chances are, if you have to ask this, you are not gonna make it.

well i took a diagnostic test when i first started studying and i got a 180

That would be a huge jump. Not likely, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t study anyway. I don’t know whether “pablito” means you are Hispanic, but if you are, then you’re certainly in good position to be a Hisapnic Scholar.

Give it a good try. Prepare well. Hope you do well.

The preparation will stand you in good stead for you SAT. PSAT also serves as a diagnostic test for SAT. Also, it would motivate you to start preparing earlier for you SAT.

No harm done if you don’t get top scores. Colleges don’t get to see them.

what exactly is a hispanic scholar

There are designation for Hispanics and African-Americans who do well on the PSAT: [NHRP - National Hispanic Recognition Program - PSAT/NMSQT Scholarships & Recognition](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Scholarships and Recognition with PSAT/NMSQT - SAT Suite)

Is there a designation for Asian-Americans who do well on the PSAT?

Hard to answer that question, depends on what else you have going on, your ability etc. However, given there are no issue here, I would think a month woud be fine.

well im a very bright person and fast learner and i study every day so im pretty sure i can do it. is there any techniques u guys used when you studied for the psat.

LOL…no. There is no point in awarding Asians. Way too many do well for it to be award-worthy.

studying for a month - is way better than not studying. What are using for tools to study with?

I recommend finding one guide you like and sticking with it. Also, go to collegeboard.com and sign up for the e-mail question of the day.

i checked out princteon review and barrons at my libary, but PR is a horrible guide
barrons is much better

Psh! Bright and fast learners don’t study cough :).

Right. And bright and fast learners also don’t score 180. People here may be telling you that you have a chance, but I highly doubt it. 37 points is nearly impossible to do in a month, especially if you are at an above average score already. You can aim for hispanic scholar, but don’t get your hopes up about SF. Theres no chance of that.

“37 points is nearly impossible to do in a month”

Agree about that. My score only jumped 11 points from 9th to 11th grade.

About the only thing you can improve in one month is your familiarity with the test. You need to actually sit down and do a few timed sample tests. If you gain enough speed to finish the test faster than the time allowed you can go over your questions and maybe fix a few mistakes.
