But come the eff on, stereotyping is a natural defensive mechanism of protecting ourselves. You don’t grab something that’s glowing red because you stereotype it to assume it’s hot and will hurt. So does that make everyone racist against hot pans? By similar logic you stereotype the bad parts of town and realize it might not be the best idea to go driving around them at 2 AM. So is everyone then inherently a racist? No.

Asians and blacks have long been contentious. In the 90s in southern Cali it was long known that blacks and Koreans for example did not mix.

All races have racists in them.

I have to disagree with this. Many people think “hey Obama is president so we voted for a black president. We are now post-racial.”

Well first, Obama isn’t a black president. SAY WHAT!!! No, he is not. Hi is biracial. No one voted in a black president. Even in the 1800s biracial people were NOT treated the same as full blacks. They went to school, they were even semi integrated. Even during the height of lynchings, you won’t find pictures of biracial people being lynched. Even I have had “friends” that would never be friends or date a fully black person. So we can’t honestly count Obama. If you want to impress me vote in someone that looks like Bernie Mac…

Consider my father. He is DARK. I am not. People that readily talk to me flinch when approached by him. Granted this is usually older people but nonetheless…

Yes, we have moved along in race relations greatly. I even imagine for most people individually in America race is no longer an issue. As a whole it is still an issue and most likely always will be.

Racism and xenophobia are natural responses as well. Does that them make them right?

Jealousy is a natural response. If I attack a guy talking to my wife am I in the right??? Uhmm no…

Why? Because we aren’t monkey’s so we don’t get to act like them…

To move the conversation another direction…who cares if someone is a racist? As long as they don’t go out and start ynchings, then what’s the problem? Shouldn’t everyone be free to hold their own views no matter how right or wrong they may be perceived to be.

I’m also now thinking that half the people in this thread are racist against racists ;)

Well what if that person is your boss or landlord or judge or police officer or taxi driver or government representative?

^

What he said…

The old “who cares?” defense.
Avoiding the hot pan or glowing ember is a matter of experience or adherence to warnings from others.
Lynchings? As long as someone doesn’t lynch…?
Lemme share a tale. Los Angeles housing fairness investigation, on-going checks, among many landlords across the city. They call an apt listing, ask if it’s still available and arrange to stop by later. Fine. But, they have investigators parked 30 seconds away, who now come to the door. Minorities. Average folks, not Will Smith, nor undesirables for that neighborhood. Within that narrow window, the apt is suddenly unavailable. Oh, just rented it out.
I swear. Los Angeles. Sobering. Happened over and over. Granted it was a while ago, but still within recent history and the recent so-called climate of openness. What “hot pan” experience allows this? I suggest even liberals are not aware of the many times they make decisions based on stereotypes.

Sadly, it goes all directions (including Asian Americans being racist against African Americans, and African Americans being racist against Asian Americans, as well as racism by and against European Americans).

Note, however, that any President of the United States is an exceptional person. Exceptionality (either good or bad) often overrides racism and other petty prejudices that someone may have.

So what. If I’m the one owning or managing an apartment (or store, etc) it should be my right to refuse whoever I want. You can be black or you can be a 4 foot ninja with red hair. Just because I don’t let you borrow my car doesn’t mean I’m racists…it’s because it’s my car.

False. Learn your law. [The Civil Rights Act of 1968](Civil Rights Act of 1968 - Wikipedia) made housing discrimination illegal.

Attitudes like this lead to this…

[No Colored Allowed](<a href=“Private Site”>Private Site)

It’s illegal, immoral and disgusting.

You can’t construct a legitimate argument for your view.

But now I am out…

[Don’t Feed The ■■■■■■](http://forum.gon.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=615781&stc=1&d=1313165072)

Let’s be careful to skip the political here.

Sleep, not how it works. You can’t legally discriminate based on race and other factors, in certain public contexts.

I’m also out.

I’m aware it’s illegal but I disagree with it. Just like stores can refuse to serve people who aren’t wearing a shirt, you should be able to refuse people for being black or whatever arbitrary criteria you set.

Anyways, my point is I think this fear of racism has gone too far nowadays. You’ve got employers scared so bad of getting sued that they’ll not even bother acknowledging you sent in a resume for fear you’ll scream “you didn’t hire me because I’m Armenian!” Had a friend’s dad who had to defend himself as a manager in his workplace for supposedly discriminating against one of his underlings for being from Romania…seriously.

As you can see from many comments on this board…racism is in existence and is a serious matter on college campuses, but is often not taken seriously.

It’s weird that so many colleges talk about all of their diversity initiative in terms of how many minority students(including women) or students of a certain region they have, but rarely take the initiative to make these groups welcome when they come to campus. The diversity weekends are helpful for these students to meet similar students like themselves, but unfortunately it doesn’t change the ideas of the majority on campus and often reinforces the IDEA that certain minority groups “self-segregate”.

The fear of racism and overall PC shenanigans have lead to almost all college campuses to impose first amendment violating rules that always fail in court, but rarely gets there.

There is some racism against Asians in elite colleges college (see this article in the Daily Princetonian: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/290114-daily-princetonian-makes-fun-stereotypical-asian-students.html).

Almost all students at top colleges aggressively oppose any racism against blacks and will attack you if you even suggest that blacks may be different from other races in any way. So racism against blacks at top colleges isn’t a problem at all really; what is a problem, however, is the extreme political correctness among college students.

^Yeah, huge problem.
