Is submitting the application last minute frowned upon?

The admissions officers don’t care.

This is true, but in the past if there have been server crashes around the time of the deadline, MIT has extended the deadline by a few days. They’re not looking to disqualify anyone because of their own server issues.

Regardless of when your application is submitted or when the file is completed and sent to readers, your application will be read by several people at different times. So some readers will read your application early and some will read it late.

No decisions are made at MIT until all applications have been read and discussed. There’s no advantage to submitting early.
