Is the Ti-89 good for Calculus?

This is true, but learning to do math by hand also helps you learn to think and problem-solve.

I’m not sure if this is true for all calculus classes or not but I never used my calculator (TI 83 Plus) for my calculus classes. Calculators are not allowed. Make sure to check the rules of the classes or else you’ll be wasting your money – unless, of course, you want the calculator so that you can graph various functions and observe different properties haha.

in my school TI 89 is required for calc.

The HP-50G is more powerful than the Ti-89 and more scientifically oriented than the TI. Just a thought. Id try em both and see what you like better. I chose the 50G because in essence the 89 is crippled is comparison.

I use the TI89 with an application that shows me Step-by-step solutions to the answers. It’s really helpful when I’m stuck with tasks/problems and can’t get any outside help but my own. If you want, you can check their webpage at ti89 com!
