Hi, I was watching this video ([YouTube - The Top Ten Reasons to Come to the University of Chicago (1)](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCzZklq8Cf0&feature=related)) on youtube about the U of C, and I kept reading comments like: “You’ll still be able to get a job at Starbucks, or maybe get a graduate degree at Hamburger University, from McDonald’s!” and “Remember your 35% score fondly as you’re taking orders at McDonald’s.” and “Enjoy your “50 pages a week of Dorian Gray”, etc., remember that while you’re making fries at Burger King. That’s all a U of C degree is worth.”

I absolutely know that UofC graduates are very successful but where do these comments come from?

people who are dumb and jealous because they never got to get a u of c education.
i think it’s a lifelong investment…but hey, u of c is full of intellectuals. most people (including those who posted those rude comments on youtube) won’t exactly understand quantum physics or know how to pronounce dostoevsky. they’re simply jealous of the intellectuals uchicago tends to produce ;)

I looked at the video you posted and it was mainly one person repeating the same things over and over again. He’s probably just bitter about not being accepted or something of the like. He was just a spammer.

and don’t forget about those 82 nobel prize laureates!

yeah seriously. not everyone can get into u of c, so they’re jealous. i’m happy to say that i’m one of the lucky and special ones who received such an honor.

One thing you have to understand is that people will be jealous about the prestige of Chicago. The same holds true for the handful of places that are considered the “elite” in American education.

First off, despite the stupidity of the USNW rankings, you do get some straight resume boost just for going to a college on the top ten. Won’t help as much as HYPSM (at least right now - it’s likely that with increased competition from being on the Common App, there’ll be a bit of a jump in reputation), but it’s still there.

Secondly, I’ve yet to see a forum for any of the HYPSM set that HASN’T been inundated with ■■■■■■, most of them either rejects from whichever college it happens to be, or people who went to one of the other four. It’s entirely possible that UoC getting this kind of attention is a sign of good times to come. XD

Within 9 months of graduation, 94% of the Class of 2007 was somehow accounted for, with graduate school or full-time employment.

I think most people who complain about not being able to find a job haven’t tried to find one hard enough or haven’t been proactive with finding internships, volunteer opportunities, etc. or using the career office. It’s more their own fault than the University’s. I know brilliant people with useful degrees two years out of college who can’t get a full-time job because they lack the motivation to do so.
