Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

The new wildcard format added some excitement back into the show however the coach comments are so gushy at this stage, as many of you have noted. It will be interesting to see if Adam has a “remarks strategy” in dealing with having 3 of the 4 remaining singers in the finals. After giving one of the top-12 singers another chance, especially those that were in the 6 through 12 spots, it validated the original elimination results for me.

Kind of a boring result, but oh well…

Damien has a beautiful voice and he did smile a few times when the judges were commenting. I’m happy he’s getting another chance.

Glad to hear Damien got the spot. I thought he was great Monday.

Pharrell kept mentioning he couldn’t wait for their albums. Will they all make an album? Is he producing albums for them outside of The Voice?

I think that’s just more “gushing praise”.

They won’t all make albums, but Pharrell is a producer and can produce if he wants to do so. I think it’s probable that he will offer deals to some of them…at least he seems to have said that to a couple of them, e.g., Sugar Joans.

I think Damien has an incredible voice, but also believe there’s not a place for him in today’s music scene. That’s just the way things are. I only hope he and Danica and a few of the others who aren’t destined for fame and fortune manage to make a decent living from their music as a result of their exposure on the show–as back-up singers or whatever. In a ridiculously tough business where talent is never enough by itself, being able to pay the rent by singing counts as a huge success.

Is any former Voice contestant making a career now? I just think singing isn’t enough, or stage presence…the music has to resonate - a sound, a vibe and excellent songs. I don’t know how you go from this to putting out an album of original music if you’ve just been doing covers up to now.

I think Pharrell’s group fizzled because he over produced their song choices and changing them too much. That’s fine to do in the studio before you release a song no one has ever heard. Not great to do in a competition where it just makes people think about why they liked the original more.

No

Some are making a career, just not being wildly famous. Cassadee Pope (who I thought was quite unremarkable) had a single that was 37 on the Billboard Hot 100, and this year she toured with Tim McGraw and Dierks Bentley. Last season’s winner Josh Kaufman just appeared in Pippin on Broadway–stunt casting, but at least he got paid. Danielle Bradbery has been on various tours with well-known country artists. Melanie Martinez got signed to Atlantic Records and one of her songs was used in American Horror Story this season. Michelle Chamuel has an album coming out and is touring. And there are others Voice performers who have managed to forward their careers as a result of being on the show, even if they aren’t filling arenas. There’s a reason people keep showing up to audition for this and Idol. The exposure is valuable. It can make the difference between singing for your friends in your local bar after work and earning a living from your music.

Wasn’t Danielle’s voice heard a lot during the Sochi games?

In the meantime, she seems to be in decent company for the upcoming ACC Awards:.

FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR NOMINEES INCLUDE:

• Danielle Bradbery
• Miranda Lambert
• Cassadee Pope
• Taylor Swift
• Carrie Underwood

I guess the old Blake got some pull, He even got the cruise ship singer involved. As far as Chamuel tour, that must quite a cozy affair!

The careers that have benefited most as a result of being on “The Voice” are those of the coaches.

Xiggi, Cassadee Pope is on that list?

And 4 out of 5 of them are linked to The Voice, and the other a different singing reality show!

This is a bit out of date but it summarizes what each of the previous winners has done since The Voice.

I loved the Chris/Adam duet!

Craig Wayne was great, he will have a career, no doubt. No doubt that his baby has a smile on her face. Damien was his usual self, very good but…Chris and Adam–wonderful. Matt’s original song: fantastic. A commercial hit. And it was written by MATT!! If doesn’t win, I’ll be astounded. As of now.

Chris was fabulous. Matt’s song could really be a hit, and it makes me think he could be okay if he wrote that one on his own. Imagine having Adam Levine help you tweak a song you wrote. This round in my opinion - Matt, Chris, Craig, Damien.

I didn’t know Matt wrote that song. It was great!
