Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Blake has never won with a country singer and now he has Danielle, an adorable and marketable little 16-year-old “prairie” powerhouse (assuming the voters put her through). Is it possible that he could possibly win three in a row?

I missed some of this week’s performances, so I’ll have to review them on HULU.

I like Blake, but he seems like a lousy coach. All he seems to do is cheerlead. Apparently he has a talent for selecting middle-of-the-road performers and getting his fans to vote for them. (Loved Fishing in the Dark. I must say that, although I actually own the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s classic double album “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” I too had never heard of that song. )

I think the coaches look like they are enjoying and definitely not under any influence. It is fun to watch the judges make fun of each other, poor Adam he is getting picked on for giving up Sasha. I loved her performance today.

I dislike the show but my wife loves it. Not exactly sure why. I think she enjoys the judges. We agree most of the singers are either pretty bad or not very good, depending on your glass empty or half full approach. They constantly bend notes without reason, slide up or down into pitches and show little control over the material. In the louder numbers, they tend to beat the songs to death.

The main exception was the 16 year old girl. She sang the notes, bent only the notes that should be bent and didn’t superficially “emote”. She had some issues with attack on the first notes of some lines - notably the lines that began with “maybe” or “baby” - but she seemed to have heard the problem and she did better with those as the song continued. She was the only one I’d sign to work with producers and real material.

I didn’t think I’d like Garrett but his singing is growing on me. Why did Blake choose the duo over Justin? While they were entertaining, I felt Justin was a better singer and I’m not a country music fan.

I didn’t care for Juliette Sims and CeLo’s number last night. Juliette’s voice didn’t seem as strong as it was during the competition. Or maybe it was just the sound?

I rarely watched the show until this season. I tuned in because of Shakira and Usher. Lergnom, I believe the girl you’re talking about is Danielle Bardberry. I am amazed how she is very comfortable on stage. I like her and Judith Hill but I may change my mind down the road and I don’t want to rule out other contestants’ growth.

I am not sure why TheVoice keeps bringing Sims back. She was one of the worst and most overhyped competitors during the four years. But then, the show seems determined to favor a certain type of hard screaming performers with an edge. All we now need is a return of that tattooed baldie who went far in the first year.

Also, while I like Blake and Shakira, what should one think of their rendition of Lady Antebellum’s classic. It just sounded awful.

Fwiw, this is also the time when the show loses its appeal and freshness. If the past seasons are an indication, the show limps to its finale and become boring as many of the “better” candidates have been sent packing. Just as the X-factor, after the early selections, the show starts to suffer from overproduction and bizarre coaching decisions. And, of course, from the public voting!

As far as this year, I still believe that the producers will move mountains to get their own version of Adele.

Did Garrett get his teeth whitened or am I imaging that?

Imagining … Fast types typo on iPad.

I think Garrett should lose the lip ring. Kind of distracting…

The worst was the person who used to be Rod Stewart shimmying around while a bunch of people shouted the words to one of his songs. I thought I was watching a parody video.

:D I have to agree. It was pretty painful to watch.

These old rockers need to honor some sort of “use by” date.

I finally got a chance to watch the results today, can’t believe Adam gave up Carolyn. She is much more fun to watch and listen to than Sarah. Really? He gave her up?

I like both, but I think Sarah has a better range and more versatility to her voice. I would have chosen Sarah, too.

chrysanthMum, I think you were referring to Adam giving up Sasha and I, too, like Sarah for the same reasons that moonchild described.

^^^I think she was talking about the last show where Adam had to choose between his two singers, Caroline and Sarah. He hemmed and hawed until the very last second, and then said, “Sarah.” I think he really liked Caroline (she’s such a sweetie) but felt that Sarah was a better vocalist.

^^^Oh, the battle round Caroline. Forgot about her!

The producers of the show paid attention to the X-factor shenanigans, and must have whispered something in Adam’s ear about Simon ditching that Melanie and, after saving her, making sure she’d be the winner over a much more talented singer. The integrity of those singing competitions is very debatable, as the judges sink candidates with poor song choices, leading commentaries, and in Simon’s case making up rules and ignoring the ones he did not like.

The agony over Sarah is just uber-production. Look for the judges to praise Sarah until the bitter end. Adam did something similar with a “rescued” candidate who became the fav of many.

Anyhow, this is the time the show loses its appeal and limps to its slow end. Although, this year’s version seems a bit better than the previous editions in terms of talent and appeal. It looks like we will be spared bald screamers, singing hobbits, and plain vanilla singers. One can hope!

I was referring to Sarah, you are right, she has better range. I guess I am not too happy about missing Caroline, she sounded so whimsical and happy in the early rounds with a unique voice.
