Is there a prettier song?

For pretty songs, I like Dream a Little Dream of Me sung by Mama Cass. [Mama Cass Eliot - Dream a little dream of me - YouTube](<a href=“Mama Cass Eliot - Dream a little dream of me - YouTube”>Mama Cass Eliot - Dream a little dream of me - YouTube) I also think John Lennon doing Imagine is one of the loveliest ballads ever done. [Imagine - John Lennon - YouTube](<a href=“Imagine - John Lennon - YouTube”>Imagine - John Lennon - YouTube)

Great thread!

For those with HS seniors, get the tissues for this one:
Sandy Denny “Who knows where the time goes” acoustic. Judy Collins did a more ‘pure’ version, but this is my favorite.

I agree, great thread! I’m making a palylist of CC Prettiest Songs. :)

Great, indeed. Many songs I had yet to head. YouTube is a fabulous source for older songs. The unfortunate part is that it shows how bad the current music scene really is.

Ted Hawkins’ cover of Biloxi by Jesse Winchester (from the Next Hundred Years album)

“The unfortunate part is that it shows how bad the current music scene really is.”

Actually, it would be unfortunate if there weren’t media like Youtube. At least now the young can “discover” music that is in a different league…

It is heartening to read some of the comments on Youtube from teenagers who have just listened to anyone of the great popular singers of the forties and fifties. They are truly struck by the superior quality of the singing. How could they not be?!..

I love James Taylor’s [Millworker[/url]. I saw him perform it in concert, where he explained that it was originally written for a musical that closed after only four days. A Google search led me to [url=Working (musical) - Wikipedia]a Wikipedia entry](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg2D714gn2w) that says the musical was based on Stud Terkel’s book Working. (The song was called Millwork in the musical.)

Before emeraldkity4’s post I had never heard [Eddie Vedder’s version](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBDZ2W-MMR8), but now that I have, I agree it is wonderful!

Another James Taylor song that can make me cry is [The Frozen Man](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFvGq-52I8I&feature=related), about a sailor whose ship capsized a century ago in cold seas. He was frozen, and then found in modern times and revived. In one verse, he visits his wife’s and daughter’s graves; both were “dead and gone from extreme old age.” So sad!

Landslide–Stevie Nicks
Young

And Older

Someone mentioned the late Shirley Horn - Here’s to Life
[Shirley Horn Here’s to Life - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

You Are So Beautiful - Joe Cocker

Over the Rainbow duet with Ray Charles and Johnny Mathis on Ray’s last LP. Speaking of duets the recent Tony Bennett Duets II is fabulous.

I think the prettiest song I’ve ever heard is “My Ship” from “Lady in the Dark” by Kurt Weill. There’s a lovely version by Julie Andrews from “Star!” [My Ship - Julie Andrews - YouTube](<a href=“My Ship - Julie Andrews - YouTube”>My Ship - Julie Andrews - YouTube). And another beautiful version on YouTube by Dawn Upshaw. I could swear I’ve heard Barbara Cook sing it - that would be the prettiest voice singing the prettiest song - but I can’t find it anywhere.

Love this thread.

I think I’ve come to realize that I like music that has a bit of a haunted or almost sad sound. Do y’all remember ‘Twin Peaks’? [Twin Peaks Theme (Instrumental) - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube) I have always liked the music from that, too. Thanks for sharing your favorites here! I’ll be adding several of these to my playlist.

SplashMom, You would probably like the music from Lost then . I love it. I remember Twin Peaks and liked it.

So much beautiful music.

Just finished watching The Rose on DVR; I’d never seen it before. The lovely song at the end got to me as it always does.

I think the first time I heard Hallelujah was a few seasons ago on American Idol and I just loved the melody and chorus. Have heard it many times since, but for some reason I just don’t get the lyrics/story it tells…

Another James Taylor song- pretty and romantic-Something in the Way She Moves.
Without You-Keith Urban.

I don’t know, Xiggi. There is some pretty creative music being made today.

Here’s an album that was released yesterday, produced by Glyn Johns (Beggars Banquet, Sticky Fingers, Who’s Next):

[Ryan Adams - Lucky Now](<a href=“Ryan Adams - Lucky Now - YouTube”>Ryan Adams - Lucky Now - YouTube)

And a couple live solo acoustic performances promoting the album:

[Ryan Adams - Dirty Rain](<a href=“Ryan Adams - Dirty Rain (In Studio Acoustic Version) - YouTube”>Ryan Adams - Dirty Rain (In Studio Acoustic Version) - YouTube)

[Ryan Adams - Ashes & Fire](<a href=“Ryan Adams - Ashes & Fire (In Studio Acoustic Version) - YouTube”>Ryan Adams - Ashes & Fire (In Studio Acoustic Version) - YouTube)

Great tunes! I especially like “What a Wonder Word” - I bought that sheet music for my son. <a href=“Louis Armstrong - What A Wonderful World (Lyrics) - YouTube”>Louis Armstrong - What A Wonderful World (Lyrics) - YouTube;

Here’s a local artist that impresses me. She’s 21 and deaf. And the “Smile” tune is a classic.
[Mandy Harvey :: Jazz Vocalist](http://www.mandyharveymusic.com/)

And one from his first solo album:

[Ryan Adams – My Winding Wheel](<a href=“Ryan Adams - "My Winding Wheel' (Live at WFUV) - YouTube”>Ryan Adams - "My Winding Wheel' (Live at WFUV) - YouTube)

Elton John introduced Ryan Adams to Bob Dylan at an event. The first thing Bob Dylan said to Ryan Adams was “So what the &%^$ is a winding wheel?”.

Adams said he was practically too tongue-tied even answer, realizing that Dylan had been listening to his album. Then, he thought, “Wait a minute, you are asking ME what one of MY songs means? Have I got some questions for YOU!” :)

A couple people have mentioned Mary Chapin Carpenter-2 more songs-Only a Dream, I Am a Town

Chris Isaak has an amazing voice, and Wicked Game takes advantage of the range and emotion:
