My little brother is going to be a senior in high school next year and wants to attend UCD for Fall 2010. My mom and him are moving to Sacramento to become CA residents before his senior years starts while i go to UCSB this Fall. I was wondering if there is a program for prospective freshmen like TAG/TAP for transfers that will give him the chance of getting guaranteed acceptance to UCD. He has his heart set out for the Communications major there.

Unfortunately, there is not a program developed for freshman applicants that will guarantee admissions similar to the TAG program.

is he in ELC? its not guarantee but it can help alot

Actually, at the Preview Day last fall, an admissions officer said that UC Davis admitted 100% of all ELC applicants last year. I don’t know if that’s just a coincidence or if it’s their policy, but it sounds like ELC = highly likely admission

What exactly is ELC? My brother has been taking nothing but AP and Honors classes in high school, does that help also?

ELC - “…the top 4 percent of students in each participating California high school class will be designated UC-eligible based on the coursework taken while in high school.”

Which UC campuses are guaranteeding fall 2009 admission to ELC students?

UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Merced, UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara are guaranteeing fall 2009 admission to ELC students who satisfactorily complete the subject and examination requirements.
UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego and UC Santa Cruz are not guaranteeding fall 2009 admission to ELC applicants; however, these campuses do take students’ ELC status into consideration during comprehensive review.

If he’s in ELC, he should have a pretty high chance of getting in. And with that said, he has to be in the top 4% of his high school class to qualify by the start of senior year. So as long as his grades are up to par, he should be just fine =)
