Is there huge gap between BC and BU?

The rivalry is much more pronounced between BU and NEU. Except at the beanpot when they are all rivals (including Harvard).

@CatLover20

Your using the middle 50 percent and I am using averages. You said it’s easier to get in to BC. Just not the case. And BU and NU also have some funky admissions options that change the figures. How about act. BC avg act this year was 33 and 2017 middle 50 was 30 to 33. BU was 28 to 31. Class rank gpa and leadership are all part of it too.

BU is great. It’s just a bit less selective than BC Look at post 11 for a comparison.

If you want to say just about the same. You’ll have no quarrel from me. But the blanket statement is just not factual.

Yeah there is literally no rivalry between BU and Northeastern @suzyQ7; I’m not quite sure where you got that from. The more pronounced rivalry is definitely between BC and BU

Actually, it is not so obvious. In the international rankings, (which are based purely on research) BU is ranked several hundred places higher than BC. BU has lots of large Phd programs and a med school. The relative perception of the two schools depends upon one’s feelings about how Phd programs/research impact the undergrad experience. This can vary from person to person and subject to subject.

As someone who lives in the Boston area, BC and BU pretty much have very similar reputations around here (mayyyybe with BC having a slight leg up). Like @shawnspencer said, the biggest difference between them is their location and atmosphere. BC is pretty known for being preppy and is absolutely beautiful with big buildings on its own campus. BU is really integrated in the city (think buildings as classrooms) and from my understanding, has a bigger international student population. BU and NEU are more similar in the way their campuses are set up.

While BU has MORE grad students & does MORE research, there are still a lot of grad students, a lot of doctoal programs, and significant research being done at BC (even in the sciences). Over the years there have been people who have thought that BC’s “College” name gives a false impression about its status regarding research, and some have proposed changing the name to something like Boston Catholic University or Boston College University; but in the end (like at Dartmouth and perhaps William & Mary–2 other “Colleges” that could easily claim to be universities), tradition has won out over accuracy.
