I was once emailed that my assignment in the red bin would not be graded unless it was put in the blue bin (this was before email was an hourly thing everyone checked). For the rest of the semester (in a top 20 university and top 5 engineering school) my assignment sat in the red bin. I knew it wouldn’t lower me below an A (and if it was going to, then i would have moved it) and my professor refused to accept it without it being placed in the blue bin. At the end of the semester it was not counted in my grade and yet I still got an A.
If I were doing that now, I would send someone in at night to break all sorts of laws so my assignment could magically move from red to blue bin. I imagine that if my professor were doing this now, he would have doubled the value of the assignment and burned my A. But back in the day, we were all fools.
