Commute to a CC first and get in enough coursework so that when going to TAMU West or equally affordable UG program, you can attend to finish out with lowest costs. Another strategy is taking out max student loans freshman and sophomore year, while piling up money so you can make it through Y3 and Y4 at higher costs. Unless you can receive some kind of 4 year $$ at TAMU West to make if more financially feasible for you to attend all 4 years there.
Yes, TAMU has or had 7 ‘campuses’ - most only think about the one in College Station, but Prairie View A & M, back then Galveston campus, and the others have been part of they ‘system’ since I worked for Insurance and Risk Management with TAMU in the early 1980’s. Seeing now TAMU has International, Commerce, Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Texarkana.
