Is this sentence correct?

<p>According to my book, when a subject contains a pronoun that differs in person from a noun or another pronoun, the verb must agree with the closer subject word.</p>

<p>They give an example:
Neither Meredith nor you are expected to finish the work today.

What book?

yeah. When it’s either “either” or “Neither”, you take the second noun.</p>

<p>So, “Either my cars or your car is going to break”
or “Either your car or my cars are going to break”

Yes, but “you” is not really plural. It just requires a plural verb. It is not a plural pronoun or noun, so it does not count.</p>

As a subject, “either” is singular. It’s the opposite of “both,” and refers to one at a time: “Either ketchup or mustard is good on a hot dog.” But if “either” is modifying a subject in an “either . . . or” phrase, then the number of the verb is determined by the number of the second noun: “Either the puppy or the twins seem to need my attention every other minute.”

“You” is a singular pronoun.
