Is UChicago worth the cost over in state at Michigan?

My dad isn’t going to give me the tuition difference to play the market or buy a Porsche. Let’s be practical here

Well, if there’s no cost difference to you and you don’t care how your dad spends his money, go to Chicago. It’s a better school and no one is going to reasonably deny that.

If this is all you want though, you can just as easily achieve it from Michigan.

“Well, if there’s no cost difference to you and you don’t care how your dad spends his money, go to Chicago. It’s a better school and no one is going to reasonably deny that.”

Saying UChicago is a better school than U-M is an opinion. It is not a fact. There are people who think Umich is better than UChicago. Also, how do you know how good UChicago is? Do you go there? No, you don’t.

What makes UChicago so much better than Umich that “no one is going to reasonably deny that” that UChicago is better?

UChicago is better academically than Michigan.

But being happy at UChicago is a different story. Their own students call it “where fun goes to die.”
If you enjoy watching theater and bonding over poetry on a Friday night, then it could be a nice place for you.

“UChicago is better academically than Michigan.”

Again, that is an opinion. That is not a fact.

Either way, if you care about being a brilliant researcher/scientist/writer, than UChicago is a better option if money isn’t a problem.

But that’s not your thing and you want to actually work in financial or tech sectors, then Michigan is a better option.

Prestige != Career success.

A Kid from Colorado School Mines graduating in the top 25% of his class probably fares better than someone at Brown’s 80th percentile.
