Thank you - good COA since it’s on-budget for me.
I just found Arkansas Tech University with D2 baseball and public university with AACSB business college - 215 W O St, Russellville, AR 72801 (3 1/2 hours drive) and offers in-state tuition prices to TN residents. Adding to spreadsheet. Applying to TN schools for sure because of TN Hope lottery $$ but adding some other small schools that could possibly have baseball at D2 or D3. Will reach out to those coaches once I’m ready to send YouTube video and follow the protocol.
Get this done ASAP. All you need is a two minute highlight video, leading with best highlights. Then email that video (YouTube link ok) along with your academic profile to coaches. Have a detailed subject line in the email: 2026 infielder, 6.7 60, .300 avg. (highlight your strengths). You should also create a Twitter account and pin the highlight video at the top, in your profile. Then follow coaches and programs of interest. Not all coaches use twitter, but some do.
You can do online recruiting questionnaires if you want, but not necessary unless a coach tells you to. If you do a questionnaire, immediately follow up with an email to the coaches (ok to copy them all, always send to head coach and coach responsible for recruiting if there is one.)
Lastly, I agree you might consider CC first, at least those with relatively strong baseball teams with a history of guys transferring to D1/2 programs. Good luck.
Thank you! Really helpful! Asking for help from my Mom for videos this weekend at a tournament. Need to start Twitter/X and do that stuff. Appreciate this! Big spreadsheet started and Henderson State offers FREE TUITION with 26 ACT & 4.0 UW (Select # of students only with honors or $6K/yr), so COA $14-17K a year. I just found out about this college last night (Arkadelphia, AR) and it’s D2 and 3 1/2 hour drive with D2 baseball. AACSB business program. The other one that looks promising is Columbus State which has $5K a year renewable with Honors and COA is about $25K a year, so it would get to $20K and not sure if anything else. Stretch but not with a loan. AACSB business program is a plus and D2 baseball. With in-state tuition to TN, that’s good. IDK if they offer any other merit, to get closer to $15K. Most of these smaller schools are ACBSP business programs, so that doesn’t make them top choices. We’ll see how this goes. My safe financial fits are public universities with auto merit - MS and TN mostly. Definitely considering SWTN community college locally since I can commute but it would be nice to connect with coaches and learn about programs outside of this area, too.
While you need some game video, don’t forget to have a good suite of skills video’s. If you are a pitcher, front, side and back views with radar on front and back views showing velo. If a position player, need to show various fielding scenarios along with throwing velo. Eg outfield, show catch and then throws to third and home from RF; Inf at you, forehand, backhand and slow roller with throw to first; catcher blocks and pop times. Batting, ok to show BP with back and side views. Try to get radar readings on bat speed and exit velo. Some of the Showcases will actually put together a skills video for you, and they will have the equipment to measure the key metrics.
IMO, it will be hard to find an affordable D3 with AACSB accreditation. If you are looking at D2/D3, sounds like a pro career is not realistic. Focus on the school that will meet your affordability and academic criteria first. IM is not a bad way to continue baseball, and will not be a time sink.
Flip that 6 hr drive upside down and University of Wisconsin Whitewater could come close on financial budget. Excellent business programs and sports oriented campus.
Thank you! Adding it to my list!
It sounds like I need a professional sports videographer - not just my Mom making video clips I edit together. TBH a pro career is not really that realistic. I’ll still apply to some D1 programs with great merit like my brother did (like Ole Miss - it ended up being just as inexpensive as some others he toured like MTSU). He wanted a big college experience and just did IM baseball since he had ACL tear that took him out of the game too long junior year.
I shot the video for both my kids, one recruited for softball as a position player and the other for baseball as a pitcher and middle infielder just using a handheld hd video camera. I had a radar gun so usually another parent shot the radar gun as I shot the video and I would swing to the radar reading. One of the baseball camps my S attended had some high tech stuff in the batting cage where they video’d his swing and added a bunch of metrics in addition to bat speed and exit velocity, such as time to hitting area and bat path data. It was nice, but I think just good video is all they need to judge your swing.
Thank you! This is really helpful!
Sorry to be late and stating the obvious, but there are very few D3 baseball colleges with business schools - especially near you. Similarly, there are very few academically strong-enough D2 baseball colleges - especially near you.
May need to broaden criteria IMO.
Yes, Fontbonne is closing.
