But I imagine it would apply to the campus in Rome. I’m not an expert - but it is still Loyola Chicago, just in Rome. So it may apply. I would check!
With those stats, Loyola will likely keep offering opportunities for him to apply for more things. Like the Ignatian (full tuition) and honors. Plus other more focused scholarships. Have him do all the essays and see what comes back.
My kid also wanted urban and diverse. She was a very strong HS student and chose Loyola Chicago because of all that it offered in the end —- merit and opportunity and being in a city where she could tap in to the international populations. The honors program has been great for her and she has had a very good first semester —- academically and in terms of school involvement and finding her place. Loyola has really been quite perfect for her and while they seem a bit lowkey about the diversity, it is incredibly diverse student population. Much moreso than we expected.
I don’t know your kid but I will say as someone who was raised in the DC area and went to college in the northeast then raised my kid overseas, I have also found the large midwestern population at Loyola very good for my kid as so many of the students are open, smart and kind. It is a stereotype but one that generally sticks. The social justice slant at Loyola is also special and something the school really leads with which i think is so important for this generation! For all of us really. Lastly, they just announced they were recognized as one of only a couple dozen US colleges that is net carbon neutral. Their environment sustainability focus is timely and iimportsnt.
Good luck. It all works out!
Scholarships absolutely can be applied to their Rome program.
Oops wrong thread
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback. You raised a really good point about Midwestern Nice. There are so many maladjusted people in the DC area, and more flocking to “the most elite” schools. I just have a great feeling about Loyola - we’ll see!
I just reread your comment about Midwestern nice. So this kid, after applying to Loyola Chicago, Madison, and Marquette, went to visit a few weeks ago and decided it’s too COLD out there!! Argh…it looks like it is down to St. Joe’s, Drexel, Pitt, and Loyola Maryland. I think he will end up at SJU, but who knows?
Fair enough. It is cold! But for sure your kid will land in the right place. I really believe it almost always works out as it should. Enjoy this time because it flies by…
OP here to belatedly wrap up the thread. He will be joining the Honors College at St. Joe’s! Thank you to everyone who weighed in with advice or consolation!
