Italy, UK trip, advice re phones etc

Get a couple of simple euro plugs that work with whatever USB you use. The multi-USB was great, but we liked to have something on either side of the bed or sofa.

If you’re renting a car there’s probably a port to plug into, but be aware that it’s probably USB-C. We bought a car charger along so we could plug in 2 phones at the same time.

@cinnamon1212 - I have this adapter, I’ve used it for every Europe trip since 2019, and my D took it to Morocco last month…it’s great. It’s all you’ll need - if there are 2 of you traveling, you might want one for each of you. https://a.co/d/cIyqsNW

If travel involves UK, note that UK and Europe have different plugs.

I would purchase the Zendure Passport and be one and done. Protects your equipment and works around the world. Have been to both countries multiple time in last 24 months and this worked.

Shown below deployed for Italy and UK. You plug your US chargers directly in.

We also got up early and started roaming the streets and walked over to St. Marks. Got there about 8. Only a handful of people and lots of pigeons. Quiet, special, surreal. It’s well worth it. We stopped at about 3 places along the way for a cafe! Day trippers arrive about 9. You will want to get in line to the campanile bell tower there before the crowded. 360 view of Venice, very special.

Also, go back at night after dinner. Sit by the orchestra at the Florian, have dessert and a drink and enjoy the ambiance. You’ll have to pay to sit, but it’s fabulous.

We have the UK ones as well. We bought them there in 2018, but they’re super cheap on Amazon.

I second the plan of getting up early when staying in a busy tourist area. Sitting outside for breakfast or strolling the streets early is absolutely one of those peacefully surreal moments - dead quiet, the stunning surroundings all to yourself, and knowing that in an hour or two it’ll be completely packed with people.

We have some amazing photos of that giant circular staircase exiting the Vatican where we’re the only people. We had it completely to ourselves for about 10-15 mins. We were there right when the Vatican opened (and our guide somehow jumped us to the head of the line to enter) but unfortunately had to leave a little early so there wasn’t a single other person around that area yet.

In addition to getting up early, fully endorse getting “skip the line” tickets for anything you want to do. I’m not familiar with Venice, but in other Italian tourist destinations, you could easily spend half your day awaiting entry to sights, and that can really diminish joy.

I don’t know how long you are going to be in Venice. I used to like to stay out at Venice - Lido, rather than Venice proper. Lido has beautiful beaches. We used to a hotel boat shuttle to venice during the day and then go back to the hotel in the afternoon to enjoy some sun and water.

We will be there for a week. Have already booked an air bnb, tours, and opera tickets at La Fenice!

So happy you’re doing airbnb – the Italian supermarkets and salumerias are such joy if you have a place to store and prep food!
